Joe Rogan moved to Austin, the capital of Texas from California back in 2020 after very public criticism of what he felt were unreasonable restrictions during the Covid-19 pandemic. The Sunny State was a natural choice for Rogan, host of the world’s biggest podcast, as it is home to Hollywood and the who’s who of show business.
However, the UFC commentator didn’t just move to Texas. Rogan, not happy with the clubs in Austin, built a brand new comedy club there along with a state-of-the art gym and a studio to record his JRE podcast. And it seems Texas is the perfect place for Rogan, who seems to have taken to the unique and distinct culture and sensibilities around one particular aspect of the Lone Star state.

Joe Rogan was joined by comedian and actor Kevin James on episode #2116 of his JRE podcast. James, who is looking to get back into stand-up comedy, was telling Rogan about the struggles he was having in getting back to doing comedy and working out material for his upcoming stand-up special.
Rogan felt that the Hollywood star needed a change of environment and someone to hype him up. The podcast host suggested he move to Texas, where he would have Rogan’s club to perform and his gym to workout in. “Move here. The club’s always very available… Come here to my gym we can work out together,” Rogan said.
The UFC commentator found the people to be extremely friendly here and as someone who is a strong advocate of freedom of expression and the ability for people to have maximal autonomy over their own affairs, was impressed at the attitude the Texan government and society had towards freedom.
“It’s great here [in Texas] man, the people are so friendly. The way they treat like freedom here is, like, a religion. Freedom is a different thing in Texas. They are not interested in controlling like what you buy and where you go and what you do on your land,” Rogan said.
Rogan compared freedom to a religion in Texas and told a mind-blowing fact about tigers to the ‘King of Queens’ star to illustrate his point since, unlike almost every other state and indeed country in the world, Texas allows residents to buy and keep exotic and even dangerous animals like tigers and lions as pets.
“You can own a zebra they don’t give a f**k. There’s more actual tigers in captivity in private collections in Texas than there are of all of the wild of the world… I drove by a place the other day that had giraffes people have giraffes you can have whatever the f*k you want if it’s your land they just leave you alone,” he added.

Joe Rogan has expressed satisfaction at his decision to move to Texas on multiple occasions. And one of the reasons behind this is that, given his considerable income, the stand-up comic would have saved a small fortune in taxes since Texas does not levy a high-income tax unlike California, which is one of the highest taxed jurisdictions in the country.

Rogan bought a lakefront mansion in Austin that was reportedly worth around $14 million that, at 10,980 square feet covers a significantly larger area than Rogan’s 7,600 square feet house back in California and has eight bedrooms alone.

The property covers a four-acre plot where Rogan raises his own chickens and is built adjoining the picturesque Lake Austin in a swanky neighborhood and counts the likes of Hollywood star Sandra Bullock among his neighbors. Clearly, Rogan is living his best life and enjoying himself in Texas. What do you think about Rogan’s comments about Texas?
