Episode number 1970 of the Joe Rogan Experience was a goldmine of amazing information for ardent listeners of the successful podcast. Hosted by UFC commentator Joe Rogan, this particular episode saw entrepreneur Bill Ottman pay a visit to the studio as the duo talked over a wide range of topics covering technology and the functioning of major social media apps.

Ottman, the founder of Minds, an open-source social network, had a bunch of interesting views on how social media platforms, such as his, work with the varying policies of different nations. While conversing about this, Rogan also opened up about Google and the search engine’s negotiation with China. The Asian country is well known for its strict censorship and the 55-year-old’s views came as an interesting revelation of how major platforms had to deal with China’s policies during negotiations.

As the duo talked about how a few nations had legislation that allowed them to force online platforms to take down content at their request, Rogan happened to recall a conversation that he had with a friend of his. This individual, who he claimed was an executive at Google, revealed the tough behind-the-scenes negotiations that the organization had with China.

“… they were in negotiation and doing business with China and she said, if we don’t do this they are just gonna copy it,” he recalled.

Pointing out that it’s either them working with China with certain restrictions or getting completely ripped off, Rogan shared an observation that many would be quite familiar with already.

“They are basically just gonna rip off Google and so we’re in this battle to either appease them with their rules and have it go over there and have you know some things like Tiananmen Square.” he said.

This is not the first time that the UFC commentator has addressed topics related to China. Rogan has earlier, on multiple occasions, mentioned developments around TikTok and some of the controversy surrounding it.

A few months back, the 55-year-old had talked about the Chinese video-sharing platform TikTok as he commended the ban placed on it by the Indian government. Speaking to his guest, Rogan had expressed his fascination at the decision back then.
