If there’s one thing Joe Rogan enjoys more than calling fights, it’s calling out his friends when they’re way off base. Case in point: the infamous podcast moment shortly after UFC 181, when Brendan Schaub boldly claimed he’d “surprise” the world if he ever grappled with former heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez. Even after tough losses to contenders like Andrei Arlovski and Travis Browne, Schaub carried an unshakable confidence in his abilities.
But Rogan was quick to bring him back to reality. With a deadpan expression, he cut through the bravado, “If you had a wrestling match with Cain Velasquez, how well do you think you’d do? I think you’d be surprised. I think he would f–k you up.” The moment became an instant classic—one of many times Rogan delivered a harsh truth with brutal honesty. And it seems fate repeated itself when the UFC commentator joined his gang on the latest JRE Fight Companion with Schaub, Bryan Callen, and Matt Serra.
He once again casually shut down the former heavyweight contender while throwing his full support behind Zhang Weili in her fight against Tatiana Suarez at UFC 312. “For Fonzie, I’m going with the champ, who’s the superior striker,” Rogan said, making it clear whose side he was on before Schaub even had a chance to plead his case. But Schaub didn’t entirely oppose the idea.

He acknowledged Magnum’s striking ability, saying, “Weili probably has a little advantage on the feet.” Yet, just as he started to make a case for the other side, Rogan cut in, “But more championship experience. A lot more championship experience, son.” The back-and-forth banter quickly became a battle of perspectives, with Callen jumping in, “Look at her, listen, man.”
If there was any doubt about Rogan’s stance, he erased it when he doubled down, “She’s had some f–king wars. That one with J Chick [Joanna Jedrzejczyk], holy sh-t.” And he wasn’t wrong! Zhang Weili’s legendary battles with former champ Joanna Jedrzejczyk, especially their brutal five-round war at UFC 248, solidified her as one of the most battle-tested champions in strawweight history.
Moreover, the fight is still regarded as the greatest in women’s MMA history. Then, when they met again at UFC 275, the 35-year-old left no doubts, finishing Joanna with a stunning spinning back fist KO and taking home a well-earned Performance of the Night bonus.

NEW YORK CITY, NY – NOVEMBER 12: Weili Zhang in her Women’s Strawweight title fight during the UFC 281 event at Madison Square Garden on November 12, 2022, in New York City, New York, United States.
The conversation wasn’t just about picking sides, it was about setting the record straight. This Chinese fighter has been through the trenches of the strawweight division, proving herself against the best. Coming off her third successful title defense, she dismantled Suarez and reminded everyone why she’s the undisputed queen of her division.
Against a world-class grappler, a fighter hyped as the ‘female Khabib’ and ‘115lbs Khamzat’, Weili dominated, stuffing takedowns, reversing positions, and unleashing relentless ground-and-pound. In the end, the judges had no choice but to award her a unanimous decision. The victory wasn’t just about defending her belt, it was a statement. Suarez was supposed to be the biggest challenge of Weili’s career, but the Chinese champion made her look average.

Even when the American challenger managed to land a knockdown, Weili recovered, reversed the position, and took control. By the later rounds, the pattern was clear. Every time Suarez tried to impose her will, Weili had an answer. She wasn’t just fighting to win, she was proving Rogan’s words right in real-time. And if Joe Rogan’s endorsement wasn’t enough, UFC CEO Dana White made sure to hammer home the point after the fight.

Did Dana White just smirk at the doubters while teasing Zhang Weili’s next super fight?
At the post-fight press conference, the UFC boss couldn’t help but smile as he addressed Zhang Weili’s doubters. “Lots of people were texting me saying ‘Weili loses tonight,’ and ‘It’s over,’” White revealed. “I bet the casinos got murdered tonight because I’m sure a lot of people threw money on Tatiana.”
And he wasn’t wrong. Suarez entered the fight as a favorite, with betting lines swinging heavily in her favor by fight night. But as the world saw, those who underestimated Weili paid the price. “Hopefully, bettors put a little more respect on Weili next time, because she deserves it,” the UFC head honcho added. Then came the ultimate praise, “When you look at Weili, she’s one of the greatest of all time, the best female fighter in the sport right now.”
That wasn’t the only compliment he had in store for Weili. In a moment that showed the sheer magnitude of her career, he admitted, “She’s at a point in her career now, and everything that she has accomplished, whatever she has to ask me in the hallway back here, I’m probably going to say yes!”

But what’s next for Zhang Weili? White hinted at a champion vs. champion super fight against flyweight queen Valentina Shevchenko. “I love them both. Maybe we’ll just have to find out [who’s the greatest]. It’s a possibility,” he teased. And it seems Weili is just as eager for the challenge. “Everything is about timing,” she told Full Send MMA. “So if there’s a good time for both of us to make this fight happen, it happens.”
With Joe Rogan’s backing, a dominant performance against Suarez, and now the possibility of a historic super fight, could Zhang Weili cement her legacy as the greatest female fighter of all time? And probably overtake Amanda Nunes in that conversation? More importantly, who would Rogan pick if Weili goes up against Shevchenko? Let us know what you think in the comments!
