The UFC has seen some of the most amazing fighters step inside the Octagon, especially when it comes to the heavyweight category. Every generation has one complete fighter who makes the games even more exciting. The color commentator Joe Rogan listed his favorite fighters who he thinks are all-rounders.“He fought a weight class down. Jones Jones fought a weight class up… Jon Jones has always been willing to fight anybody,” said Dana White, asking a question about why he thinks Jon Jones is the best instead of Islam Makhachev.

However, the UFC color commentator is on the same team as the MMA fans. This is because he listed some of the greatest fighters, and Makhachev is a part of it.

While speaking to Ari Matti in JRE episode 2186, Rogan complimented some fighters for being the most complete athletes in the UFC. Among them, he took the name of Max Holloway and Ilia Topuria. On top of that, he also mentioned Islam Makhachev and lastly talked about Jon Jones, but not without criticism.

He said, “I think if you wanted to think about, like, who is the most complete fighter? You gotta use say, like Max Holloway, Ilia Topuria. But Islam Makhachev, you got to put at the top the most complete. He could KO you with a head kick just like Jon Jones.”

While speaking about Jones, he said, “The problem with Jon is unfortunately that shoulder injury and then the uncertainty about moving up in heavyweight. Like, how is he going to deal with guys like Francis? That was the big fight.”

Hailing from Dagestan, Khabib’s protégé established his name in the lightweight division as well as became the pound-for-pound king. Rogan mentioned that the champion has every skill in his arsenal and is a complete package when it comes to fighting.

Islam Makhchev’s abilities did not go unnoticed by Ngannou

While speaking to neuroscientist and Stanford University professor Andrew Huberman, he mentioned the fighter’s prowess. He spoke about how Makhachev capitalized on leg kicks in his fight against Alexander Volkanovski. He said that the liver shot had a twofold effect.

Rogan described that the first part would be a sharp pain, and just when the opponent thought the pain had subsided, they would be hit with another violent pain. This would make them collapse and fall to the ground. “A good example is Islam Makhachev and Alexander Volkanovski. He hit him with a left kick to the body multiple times in that fight and then fired off one to the head and knocked him out,” said Rogan.

Even after this, Dana White considers Jon Jones to be the GOAT. He was asked a flurry of questions by the media about Islam Makhachev being the best, after Dana White Contender Series 69. However, he still pointed out that Bones took the prize, and the hiatus due to a shoulder injury was not in his control. It should be noted that Jones only fought once in the last four years.
