Lately, the UFC has been under fire for the unjust outcomes determined by the judges made in major fights, leaving fans feeling like they have pulled the rug out from under them. Several recent fights have left fans convinced that the judges got it wrong, causing a rift between the fans and the promotion. Fans argue that the judges’ scorecards don’t always reflect the true outcome of the fight, leading to a loss in credibility and justice.
Such conflicting decisions not only make the fans lose faith in the sport and its credibility but also leave deserving fighters at a disadvantage. Joe Rogan has come up with a new way of scoring fights that could potentially help restore parity. Nevertheless, Joe Rogan’s frustration with the UFC’s judging system has reached a boiling point, and he felt the need to step up and offer to address the elephant in the room.

During episode #1942 of ‘The Joe Rogan Experience’, the UFC commentator was joined by the author of ‘The Gray Man’, and the duo discussed the intricacies of criticism and opinions. The conversation shifted towards the world of UFC, around the faulty system of judging that has been plaguing the sport for a while now. In light of the situation, the 55-year-old offered a rather unique solution – eliminate the judges’ scorecards altogether.
Joe Rogan proposed, “Maybe we should crowdsource the scoring instead of having these people that are professional judges. Because some of them, they get it so wrong.”
“And some scoring is so- You’ll see like 49-47, 49-47. And then you’ll see one, that is just like, 50-45… Like, how are you watching the same fight? You’re so different than everyone else that scored it.”, he added.
The UFC commentator also ackowledged the limitations of such a system, “But then the crowd thing is like, then you can game the system and have your fans, like, vote and say, ‘You won the fight’, when maybe you didn’t.”
Recently, during thw Alexander Volkanovski vs. Islam Makhachev fight, Rogan expressed his dissatisfaction with the judge’s decision, which also left the fans divided. However, he stood firm in his opinion and begged to differ from the judges.

Two judges scored the fight 48-47 in Makhachev’s favor, while judge Derek Cleary scored it 49-46 for the Dagestani fighter. Alas, Cleary’s choice became a major source of debate, with many contending that Volkanovski ought to have won. And Rogan, too, expressed his disappointment in the decision.
