Will Smith, slapping Chris Rock at the Oscars in 2022, has become one of the most infamous moments in television history. Even after almost a year of the incident, people are still talking about it on mainstream and social media. UFC commentator and renowned podcaster Joe Rogan recently discussed the incident and Chris Rock’s response in a Netflix special on his million-dollar podcast.
Chris Rock is arguably one of the best comedians ever. But sometimes comedy can take a wrong or insensitive turn that hurts the sentiments of certain people, depending on what was said. However, during the Oscars in 2022, Rock made a sly joke about Will Smith’s wife Jada Pinkett Smith. This joke was a part of his monologue. However, it didn’t sit well with the ‘I am Legend’ star and he slapped Rock in front of all the Hollywood elites on stage.

Joe Rogan slams Will Smith for an “unprovoked attack” on Chris Rock
Rogan believes that Chris Rock is replicating the same move that comedian Louis C.K. made, who live-streamed on his website and released that edited version of his comedy special. However, the 55-year-old feels that the things he mentioned about Will Smith were a bold move. Rogan said, “The sh*t he [Chris Rock] said about Will Smith was ruthless.”
He believes that Will Smith shouldn’t have slapped the comedian. The 55-year-old then said, “Imagine the thought, like ‘I’m [Will Smith] just gonna slap Chris Rock, one of the greatest stand-up comedians of all time …after I slap him with some of the best comedy that anybody has ever written. And he’s gonna hone it over a year before he releases it. Like, what a terrible unprovoked attack!,” said Rogan.

Rogan said, “What a dumb thing to do …to be that person who’s publicly loved …until that moment nobody really had a bad thing to say about [Will Smith] …everybody loved that guy..”

Joe Rogan believes that things would have cooled down if Will Smith didn’t yell at Chris Rock after slapping him. But that part of the incident made it worse for the Hollywood superstar. Kreischer mentioned that if he had done the same comedy special as Chris Rock, he would have faced plenty of criticism. However, Rock’s special has received some excellent reviews.
