Everyone wants to see the Jon Jones vs. Tom Aspinall fight to unify the heavyweight championship. After all, Jones is the ‘undisputed’ champ in all but name, and many feel Aspinall, the interim champ, is the real kingpin. Jones, of course, is ‘in talks’ to try and secure “f**k you money” to fight the Englishman. But why does Jones want this boatload of cash even though he is one of the highest-paid fighters in the promotion?

Well, many suspect it is because of just how dangerous Aspinall is. After all, the interim champ is a generational talent himself, and the narrative is that ‘Bones’ fears losing to Aspinall and marring his otherwise de facto undefeated legacy, and that too right in the twilight of his career. And according to Joe Rogan, there is one particular aspect of Aspinall’s game that should give the GOAT contender nightmares- his speed.

“Aspinall is a freak. Like I’ve seen a lot of heavyweights, even Francis… Francis does not move like Tom Aspinall. Tom Aspinall is significantly faster than every other heavyweight, that’s a real problem. But Jon has been used to fighting guys like Alexander Gustaffson, guys who are really fast at light heavyweight. So the speed is not going to be as much of an adjustment,” Rogan told Derek from the YouTube channel ‘More Plates More Dates’ on episode #2239 of the JRE.

Aspinall, of course, is indeed a freak of nature. Many describe him as having the speed of a middleweight in the body of a heavyweight. And it isn’t like the Englishman is a smaller heavyweight or has a slim frame. While not as bulky as say, a Tai Tuivasa or a Derrick Lewis, Aspinall is a veritable heavyweight, who weighs in north of 250 pounds of almost pure muscle. This is why his mass is another significant issue for Jones, something Rogan is well aware of.

Joe Rogan fears Tom Aspinall’s power may be too much for Jon Jones to handle

In addition, Rogan felt that Aspinall could hurt Jones if the Englishman caught him flush. The interim champ, of course, is not a one-punch evaporator by any stretch of the imagination. But he is a heavyweight, and getting hit by such a phenomenon can be lights out just because of their mass and how the laws of physics work.

Combine that with the speed with which the Englishman hits, and it’s easy to see how that might be a big problem for Jones. “Like Jon’s used to really fast people he fought Lyoto Machida. When Machida was in his match was a lightning bolt, man. And he caught Jon a bunch of times. But then there’s the thing of getting caught by Lyoto Machida is not like getting caught by 255-pound Tom Aspinall,” Rogan added.

It is worth noting that the Jones-Aspinall fight is still in the hypothetical realm. Jones has confirmed he is negotiating with Dana White and Co. for the fight, but some suspect he may just be looking to price himself out. That would be totally understandable, given Rogan’s dire warning about Aspinall.

Others are more optimistic, not to mention excited. After all, the head honcho has promised that Jones-Aspinall may be the biggest fight in the history of the UFC. What do you think about Joe Rogan’s take on the Jones-Aspinall matchup?
