The UFC is home to some of the best MMA fighters on the planet. Likewise, the promotion also has a good eye for talent and provides them with a platform like Dana White‘s Contender Series to make a name for themselves. 27-year-old Bo Nickal is one of those promising talents. Regardless, an incident that took place in the past could have been the reason he may not have signed with the UFC.

Bo Nickal’s rise in the UFC has been a remarkable thing to see. In his short MMA career, he’s amassed an undefeated 5-0 record. Nevertheless, he had his share of tough situations, as Nickal recently revealed during an appearance on the ‘JRE MMA Show’.

The former NCAA Division I champion made his debut against Zachary Borrego in his first Contender Series bout, Bo Nickal finished his opponent in the first round with ease. However, before moving on to his next fight, he met with an accident. This happened when Nickal was riding a self-balancing single-wheel electric board while on his way to a training session.

“I used to ride my one wheel, like, to and from practice and I would just do this all the time,” Bo Nickal told Joe Rogan on the multi-million-dollar podcast. I’m going on this road and my buddy pulls behind me, he’s leaving practice too, and then I have another car behind me and I’m like, ‘I don’t wanna make these people. I better pick it up.”

In his attempts to reach the gym faster, the 5-0 prospect picked up some speed on his Onewheel, which led him to take a nasty bump on his arm. He further stated, “So I’m leaning forward [to go faster] and I catch the tip of the nose on the asphalt and I slam into the ground and I roll, and my Yeti… it’s flying in the air… everything’s flying in the air and I hit and rolled… I popped up, grabbed my stuff, and got off the road.”

Bo Nickal’s friend, who was also on his way to a training session, was shocked at the sight of that accident. Thereafter, he dropped the 27-year-old at his home on his request. “My buddy’s sitting there in his car and he’s like [shocked reaction]. And I was like, jumped in the car with him and I’m like, ‘Just take me home, bro,'” Nickal added. That accident would later spell trouble for the UFC prospect. Let’s have a closer look at the front.

Broken bones and separated joints

When Bo Nickal got back home, he sat down to check how fast he was going on his Onewheel. It surprised him to find out that the app on his phone showed that he was riding at over 20 miles an hour. It got concerning when he started to feel some pain in his arm thereafter. That forced him to get it checked out days before his second fight under the UFC banner.

“I check on my app. I was going 23 mph. Four hours later, I couldn’t move my arm… so then I go get X-ray, MRI, and I cracked my collar bone and I had like a separation in my SC joint. This was ten days before I was supposed to fight my second contender’s fight,”
said the prospect.

However, Nickal did not let that become a hurdle. Although he was in a lot of pain, he decided to fight anyway. Nickal finished his opponent again in a similar fashion to the first one. “Let’s freaking go into the fight and… I knock that dude down, hit him in a triangle, choked him out, win the fight in whatever, less than a minute,” Bo Nickal added.
