Back in 2023, Mark Zuckerberg had the entire fighting community excited after he and Elon Musk challenged each other to a fight in the MMA cage. The fight was all set to bring the UFC to the Colosseum. Needless to say, it would have been one of the most exciting fights of the year. However, things fell apart when the Meta CEO injured his knee and was forced to pull out. However, little did he know that he would get to see a different image of his loved one because of that injury.
That was what Zuckerberg revealed during his conversation with Joe Rogan on episode #2255 of the JRE. Of course, he seemed to know that he tore his ACL because of overtraining. He said, “It got to the point where I tore my ACL training. At that point, I didn’t have… I wasn’t integrated between my weight training and my fighting training, so I think I was probably overdoing it. So, now we’re basically, I’m just trying to do this in a cohesive way, which I think will be more sustainable.”
His injury made his employees worry because now that Zuckerberg had more free time, he would certainly ask his subordinates for more work and more emails. But it was his wife, Priscilla Chan, who gave him a reality check. He continued, “And then I sat down with Priscilla, and I expected her to be like, ‘You’re an idiot! Like what do you expect?’ You’re like, ‘I was in my late 30s at the time’ But she was like, ‘No. You heal your ACL. You better go back to fighting.’ And I’m like, ‘What do you mean?’ She’s like, ‘You’re so much better to be around now that you’re doing this. You have to fight’”

This extracted a laugh from Rogan, as it was something that people wouldn’t normally say. Even Zuckerberg admitted that it was a hilarious response. But one thing was certain. He knew the positive effects fight training in the mornings could have. It was just like a de-stress pill. He continued, “It definitely takes the edge off things. It’s after like a couple of hours doing that in the morning, it’s just like nothing else that day is going to stress you out that much. You can just deal with it.”

While Priscilla Chan urged the Meta CEO to go out for fight training, she wasn’t always a fan of Zuckerberg’s obsession with mixed martial arts. Well, it’s a story from 2023 where Zuckerberg got himself a mini-Octagon in his backyard. Let’s see how Chan reacted to her husband’s move, back then.

Mark Zuckerberg upsets his wife by getting a cage in his backyard
Back in 2023, when Zuckerberg put a fighting setup in his backyard, it didn’t quite sit well with his wife. Despite being married to him for more than a decade, it was something that Chan didn’t really anticipate. But her real emotions were revealed when Zuckerberg leaked a chat on his Instagram story.
It was indeed a chat between the Meta CEO and his wife. An excited Zuckerberg asked Chan about the Octagon he installed in the yard. But he was met with what seemed like a cold “Yes, I saw it.” Regardless, Zuckerberg believed that it looked pretty awesome. After all, it was something that every single MMA fan dreamt of. However, Chan was not happy at all. When Zuckerberg defended himself claiming that they had plenty of space left in the yard, Chan wrote, “I have been working on that grass for two years.”

It was nothing short of an ‘ouch’ moment for the tech giant. But that doesn’t mean Chan never supported Zuckerberg’s passion for MMA. There was a time when she was seen cheering for the fighters beside him and Dana White during an event. But getting a backyard MMA cage was a bit too much for her.
