With UFC 300, Max Holloway will move up in weight to face Justin Gaethje for the BMF belt. This match-up brews a sense of excitement in the MMA world, and rightfully so. Both fighters are among the most entertaining, and witnessing the two go at it is a guaranteed blockbuster. However, there is a substantial section who have expressed their concern regarding the match-up being one-sided, that includes Joe Rogan.

According to him, it is an unfair match-up as Holloway is significantly smaller in size as compared to Gaethje. However, an ex-UFC champ and his colleague would like to advance a different proposition.

According to Rogan, apart from the weight difference, Holloway should stay in the featherweight division for a potential title shot. Meanwhile, Michael Bisping, the former UFC middleweight champion, thinks this match-up is quite intriguing. He agrees with Rogan on the part there is a significant weight disparity but he differs disregarding the possibility of an upset.

Reflecting on the same, on his podcast, he said, “Gaethje is bigger, he hits harder you know he’s a knockout Merchant. He’s got the better wrestling you know and he’s just not actually a bigger guy you know so you gotta go and just yeah gotta go with Gaethje in that one for sure.”

He added, “I mean I think Max could present some problems with just his strict boxing game right, like if he just walks him down with a jab keeps pressure on him. I could see a world in which he steals, you know, maybe three of those rounds and wins a decision.” Moreover, he says with this potential win, “5 the possibilities are endless.”

Indeed, Holloway has proven to be a force to reckon with on multiple occasions. To count him out for any fight in the featherweight or lightweight division would not be correct. However, let’s take a look at why Holloway agreed to the fight in the first place.

According to the former featherweight champion, fighting at 155 is not an arduous ask. In the past, he has competed in the division against formidable opponents like Dustin Poirier. Subsequently, he thinks he can tower over two weight divisions, that is lightweight and featherweight.

While sharing his excitement to fight in the division, he says, “The BMF belt is great. Being right there at 155, and being that the 155-pound weight class is right there, just 10 pounds away from 145, I can do both classes. Why not throw my name in the hat?”
