Did Sharaputdin Magomedov just redefine what's possible in the Octagon with his double spinning backfist?

UFC 308 has been extracting nothing but insane reactions from the fighting community with even more insane performances inside the Octagon. And one such performance was given by Sharaputdin Magomedov, as he defeated Armen Petrosyan with a phenomenal spinning back fist just before the end of round 2. Needless to say, this extracted quite some reaction from the guests, and the host, of course, of the Joe Rogan Experience.

Even though the undefeated Russian mixed martial artist lost the first round, he surely made sure to rise up in the second. But a KO victory via a double backfist was something that not a single soul in the fighting world expected him to execute.

Joe Rogan and Brendan Schaub left awestruck with Sharaputdin Magomedov’s UFC 308 performance

The famed UFC color commentator didn’t really visit Abu Dhabi for the UFC’s 20th entry into the city. Instead, he went on to host a JRE Fight Companion episode along with Brendan Schaub, Bryan Callen, and Eddie Bravo. The 4 men were talking as usual when Magomedov spun twice and struck Petrosyan with 2 back-to-back backfists in the second round. With the undefeated Russian’s strength, Petrosyan went down right after the second spin. It was nothing short of a record-setting shot.

Unfortunately, Rogan and Schaub missed the action. When Bravo reacted to the double backfist, the former UFC contender was left in utter disbelief. He uttered, “He did a double spin?” Meanwhile, the JRE host was upset about missing it all. He said, “Aw man! I missed that thing!” He continued, “Goddamn I talk too much!”

With Bravo talking about the backfists, Callen joined in and appreciated Sharaputdin Magomedov‘s gas tank. Weighing in on that, Rogan said, “Well, he has to have one when he kicks as much as he does.” But it was the MMA instructor’s verdict that had the entire fighting community gasping. “No one’s ever done that before,” he said.

On top of that, the kind of accuracy that Magomedov showed at UFC 308 didn’t go unnoticed by the UFC commentator. Rogan pointed out, “Look at the accuracy, too.” And Schaub had no choice but to agree. The JRE host continued, “That is. That’s wild. And the dude just put his head down.”

‘Shara Bullet’ plans on fighting one more time before the new year

Magomedov had a dream of becoming the most active fighter in the UFC in 2024. He has already fought twice this year before stepping into the Etihad Arena against Petrosyan. Now, the Russian fighter had his eyes set on returning once again before the year

A couple of days before the showdown at UFC 308, ‘Shara Bullet’ said, “Yes, I’m going to be asking Dana about it [another fight this year]. But it all depends on how the fight goes on Saturday. If on Saturday the fight goes well, both of us, me and Arman get out there unscathed… if it goes well, I will be asking Dana to possibly give me another fight this year because I’m very thankful to him for giving me all these opportunities. It’s important for me to set a new record to be the most active fighter in one year.”
