There is a lot odd about Sharaputdin Magomedov. Hailing from Dagestan, he has almost no wrestling experience and is a striker who has ten knockouts in his twelve professional MMA fights. Recently, he was infamously caught on camera assaulting a man in a mall. After the civilian was able to hold his own against the mixed martial artist, ‘Shara’ waited outside the mall, sucker punched the man, and stomped on his head.

Another unique thing about him is that he only has one eye and had his right eye removed after going blind to it. This has raised questions on how he would get licensed in major jurisdictions other than the ‘friendly’ ones in the Middle East. And another question is being raised by none other than Joe Rogan, who has a dire warning for the middleweight prospect.

Joe Rogan thinks ‘Sharabullet’ has one big weakness

On the Fight Companion for UFC 294, Joe Rogan was joined by his friends to watch and react to the fight live. After the card, however, he revisited the UFC 294 opener between debutante Sharaputdin Magomedov and Brazilian dynamo Bruno Silva. Magomedov won the fight on the judges’ scorecard 30-27 at the end of the five rounds.

“[Sharaputdin] Magomedov taken down in the third, too. He’s gonna have a hard time with real wrestlers… He’s still on his back, look at this. I forgot he was on his back so much. I was watching some of the highlights. As a matter of fact, I think I left this fight before the third round. This dude is spending a lot of time in his back,” he said.

After re-watching the bout, Rogan was struck by how long ‘Sharabullet’ spent on his back. Silva, who had only one successful takedown in the UFC going into the fight, was able to take down the Dagestani three times during the bout. This led the UFC commentator to observe that with his nonexistent takedown defense, ‘The Pirate’ would be easy prey for a fighter who knows how to wrestle.

About the criticism surrounding his takedown defense, he said that he wanted to stay on the ground to be able to inflict maximum damage from the bottom. He praised Silva for his chin and not being knocked out despite receiving heavy damage from him. How well that strategy serves him going forward as he meets better wrestlers in the Octagon remains to be seen. But he seems keen to fight and please fans, which is a good sign.
