The latest episode of JRE saw UFC bantamweight Cory Sandhagen pay a visit to the studio as host Joe Rogan and the fighter sat down to talk about a multitude of topics. During the two-hour-long conversation, the duo discussed their unique perspectives of combat sports and the UFC, which frankly could have come only from veterans like them who have been involved in the sport for a long period.

As they reminisced about fights and fight promotions before the UFC, Rogan appeared to take a sly dig at UFC president Dana White‘s recent project – the controversial power slap league. While one can argue if that was a jibe from the commentator or just a suggestion, Rogan did end up revealing what he felt would be a better venture for the promotion in the future.

Sandhagen, 30 happened to bring up the topic of K1 kickboxing events back in the day, wondering why fans don’t enjoy fights of that scale anymore. As Rogan and he went down memory lane, the fighter revealed a particular K1 bout that he was extremely fond of.

Recalling the K1 fight between Mike Zambidis and Chahid Oulad El Hadj that took place in 2010, the 30-year-old felt it was something every fan should take a look at. As they watched the fight once again, Rogan also happened to remark on the aggression that both fighters displayed right off the bell.

“This fight was f****g bananas. These guys got in each other’s face from the moment the fight started. I mean they just f****g went to war.” he stated. This also gave the long-time commentator a solid idea. Claiming that kickboxing is something many fans enjoy, he felt it would be a smart investment for the UFC too. While doing so, he also appeared to insinuate that maybe the Power Slap League might not be the best idea for the promotion to continue with.

“If I was running the UFC, I would not be interested in slap fighting. I’d be interested in this. You guys wanna do something else that’s gonna be big? How about pro kickboxing?” asked Rogan.

Now with slap fighting being Dana White’s pet project, one can only wonder if the UFC would trash the controversial league and instead spend their time on bringing in kickboxing as part of the organization.

Rogan shared the same opinion about Kickboxing earlier

Incidentally, the 55-year-old love for kickboxing has been quite evident over his last few episodes. During a previous session of JRE, Rogan had expressed his opinion on similar lines to his guest, Jorge Masvidal. The commentator, during episode #137 of the JRE MMA Show, had pointed out how slap fighting was not something he was too keen on. Instead, he claimed Muay Thai or any striking would be a great addition to the UFC.

“Think about what the UFC has done with the slap fighting. Which is not really my thing. But Muay Thai, I feel like is more marketable.” he had claimed.

Rogan, being an ardent martial artist himself, has a natural appreciation for anything related to fighting . But the question that ultimately has to be answered is whether Muay Thai or Kickboxing is something that could be successfully marketed by he UFC.
