According to Musk, one of the fundamental reasons he purchased Twitter was to ensure free speech on the platform. However, that task is proving to be easier said than done. Rogan discussed the same during a recent episode of his podcast.
Joe Rogan listed the hurdles to implementing free speech on Twitter
On JRE episode #1898, Joe Rogan hosted stand-up comedian Neal Brennan. The conversation between the pair lasted above three hours. During their talk, Rogan gave his thoughts on the hurdles of free speech implementation on Twitter.
Commenting on the recent events, the 55-year-old said, “Well, I don’t know what their expectation is either, but what he wanted to do was have a place where people could actually debate things and talk about things and not worry about being censored because you have a different philosophy…”
He continued, “But whether or not you can do that at scale and not have any content moderation at all. Like, what would the content moderation be like? Would it be like exactly what Twitter had in place?… Or do you do it in a different way? Are you more lenient? And if you are more lenient, then what are the consequences of that?”
Rogan’s comments are valid, especially considering the recent events on Twitter. The bird app faced some backlash state after the new methods of verification left users even more confused than before.
Twitter recently faced some financial setbacks also after the fresh changes rolled in. Rogan gave his insights on those issues as well.
Rogan on consequences of free speech for Twitter revenue
Joe Rogan stated his opinion that free speech on Twitter might make advertisers think twice about using the platform. In theory, the new Twitter policies would give users free rein to state their views. There is undoubtedly a potential risk in advertising on such a platform.
Rogan said, “What if the advertisers decide they don’t want to use you anymore because they’re not confident of their products being advertised on a website where people have no restrictions on what they can say, which is actually happening.”
