However, things weren’t always easy for the 56-year-old. Rogan recently revealed the difficulties he faced when he first started out as a podcast host back in 2009.
A popular figure in the UFC, Joe Rogan started his podcasting journey on YouTube, when the platform was not as popular as it is now. But in the wake of the success he had with the podcast, the 54-year-old signed a multi-million dollar deal with Spotify. Now, after almost four years on the platform, Rogan opened up about the early days of his podcasting journey.
Joe Rogan wasn’t always as good a host as he is now

After penning down a new deal worth $250 million with Spotify, Joe Rogan appeared in an exclusive interview on the platform to talk about his journey so far. He admitted that at first, he did not know how podcasting worked. Rogan found it hard to develop a flowing conversation. He said, “I think podcasting is an art form, and I definitely sucked at it when I first started. I was curious, but I didn’t understand how to make a conversation flow.”
Moreover, Joe Rogan also struggled to switch between a listener and a speaker. He found it difficult to put his guests at ease to get the maximum from the conversation he had with them. “I did not know when to shut up and listen, and I didn’t know how to make someone comfortable so that you can get the most out of their perspective,” Rogan added.

Although Joe Rogan had his struggles in the beginning, he has now released more than 2000 episodes, which is an astonishing achievement in itself. The journey to reach that milestone also helped him develop as a podcast host with some key learnings.
How did the JRE host eventually get a hold of being a podcast host?

The 56-year-old is the host of one of the oldest podcasts ever. As such, he learned and developed some important skills over the years. Joe Rogan revealed that as the years went by, he developed a knack to let a conversation flow for interactive and interesting moments with his guests. He further stated, “I’ve learned how to assist the conversation’s flow instead of waiting for my turn to talk.”
In addition to that, Joe Rogan also mentioned that he refrains from interrupting his guests if they have something interesting to say. Instead, he fully immerses himself in what the guests have to say by being all ears, which often makes the guests feel at ease. “I learned how to be fully locked in with what the other person is saying,” the 56-year-old added.

Although it has been over 15 years, Joe Rogan is showing no signs of slowing down in his podcasting career. Furthermore, the new deal with Spotify shows how much they value his inclusion in their platform.
