UFC’s rules have been scrutinized quite a lot in recent times. Now, Joe Rogan and Royce Gracie have come up claiming that there are other MMA promotions with better rules than that of the UFC. And it all revolved around the time given to each round of the fight. But this wasn’t the only time the UFC color commentator lashed out at Dana White’s promotion and its rules.

Previously Rogan claimed that even Jon Jones had to suffer because of a ‘dumb’ MMA rule. But what complaints did the podcaster have this time?

In the recent episode of JRE MMA Show, Joe Rogan invited the famed BJJ practitioner, Royce Gracie, to the show. Therein, the duo stumbled upon the time limit in the UFC fights. The 56-year-old podcaster seemed to believe that UFC favored strikers more than grapplers, owing to the 5-minute rounds. After that, he compared UFC with Pride FC. Rogan claimed that with 10 minutes given to the fighters in a round, Pride had better rules than the UFC.

He said, “Well, I think Pride had good rules with a 10-minute was better. I think 10 minutes is better.” The famed commentator further supported his take, saying, “Especially if someone, like, works really hard. Again, 4 minutes 30 seconds you finally take the guy down, now you’re on top. And now you’re trying to set things up, but the bell rings. And then you start standing up again.”

Without a doubt, Gracie was also of the same opinion. However, he pushed the limit set for the rounds 5 minutes further than what Pride FC had. “Yeah, it starts standing up again. But then… Yeah, I think put a 10-minute round. 15-minute one round, straight through, man,” said the BJJ legend.

The JRE host demanded that the MMA rules should change while also claiming that the promotion has now stopped changing the rules. Meanwhile, this was not the first time Rogan attacked the UFC rules.

“Dumbest” MMA rule as per the JRE host

During a previous episode of JRE, Rogan addressed the only blotch in Jon Jones’ impressive career. He recalled the events of the TUF 10 finale, wherein ‘Bones’ lost the fight against Matt Hamill by disqualification because of illegal elbow strikes. The UFC commentator focused on the rule that pertains to “12 to 6 elbows”, denoting the trajectory of elbow strikes.

Rogan believed that Jones was dominating the fight against Hamill and should have been the winner of the bout. Talking about the rule, he said, “They said that he did 12 to 6 elbows which are the dumbest f***ing ever rule in MMA.” The 56-year-old claimed that the regular elbows hit just as hard as the ‘12 to 6 elbows’, thereby deeming the rule as the dumbest one in the book of mixed martial arts.

Do you agree with Rogan’s points? Do you think the UFC fights should be elongated, instead of sticking to 5 minutes per round? Let us know in the comments down below.
