The color commentator recently played the host to the current bantamweight champion Sean O’Malley and his coach Tim Welsh in “JRE MMA show” #147. The trio indulged in a conversation that rotated around various topics. As they delved into O’Malley’s past victories, Rogan underscored the significance of striking within the domain of mixed martial arts.

Rogan emphasized that the ability to have a powerful strike holds immense importance in MMA. He added “ It’s such a big advantage to be a really good striker because if your whole thing is you have to close the distance and clinch with someone, and you’re a good striker but you don’t, it’s not your thing. Like, you are not just looking to put it on somebody. It’s like you’re using it as a tool to enact your skill set, to have that one shot.”

Rogan outright proclaimed that striking is the best base for a fighter to have in combat sports. Rogan’s statement about striking surprisingly refuted his own claims from earlier- Wrestling is the best base in the realms of Mixed Martial Arts.

He added ” Elite-level wrestling in my opinion is the best base. The best base for sure. Coz you can dictate where the fight goes, you know. If we stay up on the feet, take it down, you know. And it’s just like I was always fascinated by striking, so I grew up with striking. But once I realized it doesn’t matter how fast or good a punch is, if I can’t keep it up on my feet, it means nothing.”
