Is Michael Chandler risking his career by waiting for McGregor? Should he fight someone else now?

Conor McGregor may be hinting at possible dates for his return, even though the date hasn’t yet been officially made public. As such, Michael Chandler has been waiting on the sidelines for the Irish superstar, which many have deemed to be unnecessary. However, Joe Rogan believes that Chandler has every right to wait for this fight, which will unquestionably be his biggest fight ever.

Right now, there is nothing as uncertain as Conor McGregor coming back to the UFC. That has obviously made Michael Chandler claim that he still has everything to fight for even if he doesn’t get to fight ‘The Notorious’. But the irony is that he’s still waiting and for Joe Rogan, that’s the best thing he can do because deviating from the McGregor fight could be a gamble for the former Bellator champion.

After the UFC 305 PPV wrapped up, the broadcast showed a small montage of Dan Hooker‘s past losses, especially against Michael Chandler. Joe Rogan, who did the watch-along in his ‘JRE Companion’ show, said, “I wonder if they’re trying to set that [Chandler vs Hooker] up because that would be exciting… Maybe he [Chandler] would take that [fight] if he can’t get the Conor fight… There has to come a point in time where he’s got to [move on],”

Even if Chandler’s slated to fight Conor McGregor, the longtime UFC commentator wouldn’t mind witnessing him clash with Dan Hooker, who’s been on a roll of late. However, Brendan Schaub, one of the guests on the show, would talk about the big payday that awaits Michael Chandler. “Waiting for Conor. ‘Red panty night,'” he replied.

For better or worse, Joe Rogan seemed to agree with that and empathized with ‘Iron’ and the situation he’s in at the moment. “What a crazy thing to sit around and wait. Can do nothing. You can’t take a chance, go in there and fight somebody and lose your spot and then Conor’s talking sh*t about you,” Joe Rogan added.

Daniel Cormier claims there’s hope for Conor McGregor’s return

Daniel Cormier recently evaluated what Dana White had to say, and as far as he’s concerned, the UFC CEO may not be being too transparent about Conor McGregor’s return status. Although he claims that ‘The Notorious’ may not return this year, ‘DC’ believes that a big date could require a big star to be added to the card. And for McGregor, there’s no better date than December. On the ‘Good Guy/Bad Guy’ show, he said, “It’s [PPV in December] one of the biggest ones of the year, it could not be bigger than Conor McGregor and it’s in Las Vegas which is where you generally keep Conor McGregor.”

Daniel Cormier would also mention that sometimes we have to take a closer look at what Dana White says when he makes such statements, like the one about Conor McGregor’s return. And when he heard some aspects of his recent comments, ‘DC’ believed that there was a high probability that the Irishman would make his return at the end of the year against Michael Chandler. Even him saying ‘we’re going to have to see’ tells you that there is hope,” Cormier added.

Cormier’s argument is not without merit. The last time White announced McGregor’s return, he seemed to be saying the opposite of everything McGregor was saying until the announcement. There were also talks about McGregor having a rift with the UFC over his contract situation. But all was well when his return was officially set for UFC 303 until the injury derailed his plans. Now, the only thing standing between McGregor and Chandler is a suitable date for their clash.
