Longtime UFC commentator Joe Rogan isn’t shy when it comes to pointing out the holes in the UFC, and why would he? He’s one of the longest-tenured figures in Dana White‘s promotion. Recently, the 56-year-old lashed out at UFC judges, explaining the need for certain changes to stop scoring blunders that have taken place time and time again in many UFC fights.
Over the past few years, Joe Rogan has mentioned how he gets angry at judges who do not know how to score MMA fights. He even suggested once back in 2019 to get rid of all the usual judges and instead have former fighters, who are well-versed in the sport, judge the contests. But this time, Rogan has another plan in mind. Let’s see what he said.
Joe Rogan presents Dana White with a solution to the judging errors in UFC fights

During the recent ‘JRE Fight Companion’ episode, Joe Rogan did not hold back on his problems with the current way of judging UFC fights. For starters, he wants double the current number of judges, which would be six, to be allowed to score a fight, and that, Rogan believes, will help in reducing scoring errors. “I think there should be six judges, not three… We need more judges. Three is not enough,” said the longtime UFC commentator.
Thereafter, Joe Rogan and his guests, including Bryan Callen, Brendan Schaub, and Brian Simpson, got into a discussion regarding the positioning of the judges. Should they sit cageside or should they judge the fight from backstage? Well, that for Rogan is an arguable issue. However, he’s made one thing clear and that’s for Dana White to not tolerate any kind or form of mistakes from the judges.
“That’s debatable [where judges are seated], but more judges, [UFC needs] more judges. So if you have one c*ck-eyed a**hole, who f***s everything up… they should be cut out. As soon as they have one of those, get rid of them,” Joe Rogan added. Meanwhile, Brendan Schaub proposed another change that the UFC should consider making. It involves getting penalized for eye pokes and illegal strikes to the groin area because as far as we’ve witnessed, fighters only get warned by the referees.
“I think an eye poke or a serious, like, groin strike is [an] automatic point. It would stop it,” said Brendan Schaub. With the former UFC fighter turning his attention to getting penalized for unfair tactics, Joe Rogan added fence-grabbing to the realization list as well. “Fence grab, one point. Grab the fence, stop a takedown, one point [gone] automatic[ally].” But these weren’t the only changes Rogan called for. There was another important aspect of UFC fights that he believes is “legalized cheating.”
UFC color commentator suggests getting rid of weight cuts

Weight cuts are the most painful part of combat sports. However, Joe Rogan claims that weight cuts are a legal way for fighters to cheat their opponents. How? Take the example of Alex Pereira, who not only dominated the 185-pound division but also has made his mark in the 205-pound division. As far as his natural weight is concerned, he’s well in the heavyweight category. This means he carries a lot more power to the lower weight classes.
Citing another example of Kamaru Usman, Rogan believes that fighters should fight at their natural weight and not try to gain an edge by cutting weight and fighting in a lower weight class.
“Weight-cutting should be completely eliminated… before they implement any of these rule changes, cut all these legalized cheating sh*t. Kamaru Usman is not 170 pounds. he’s never been 170 pounds for more than five minutes. He loses the weight and then immediately rehydrates. You stand next to him, the guy’s massive,” Joe Rogan further added.

Additionally, weight cuts can also pose significant health risks to fighters. There have been many occasions where fighters had to be hospitalized after brutal excessive weight cuts.
It seems like despite the UFC completing 30 successful years, there are quite a few changes still required to be made by Dana White.
