Back in 2020, Henry Cejudo retired from the sport after defeating Dominick Cruz. His retirement was quite unexpected and Joe Rogan was not particularly fond of it. A few years ago, in an episode of his podcast, the UFC commentator sat down with the former dual-weight champion and discussed his career just a few weeks after his retirement.
Amidst their conversation, Rogan felt the need to mention that his retirement bummed him out but he was happy for him at the same time. Why does he have such a conflicting opinion? Let’s unwrap this question and dive right into his comments.
Henry Cejudo retirement: A wise move?

Cejudo has defeated formidable opponents in the past which demands respect. Not to mention, in his prime, he was an exciting and notable fighter. However, he retired at a very young age and Rogan, at the time, felt like the fighter could have achieved before he called it a day from the sport. Subsequently, the UFC commentator was upset over his retirement and made it known to him.
During their podcast, Rogan said, “That is one of the reasons why it dumps me out you retired like I have conflicting feelings.” Regardless, at the same time, as a fan of Cejudo, he was happy for him that he retired from the sport with a great legacy. He added, “I am happy, I’m happy you retired. Young, healthy, and you can do anything you want. I believe a guy who can accomplish what you accomplished inside the octagon.”
It is safe to say, that Rogan quite likes Cejudo, not just as a fighter but not also as a person. However, it bears mention that this has not been the sole instance the UFC commentator has spoken highly about the former champion publically.
Rogan is all praise for Cejudo
Cejudo is quite a polarizing figure in the MMA figure. However, Rogan appears to be all praise for him. Moreover, back in 2023, almost 3 years after the retirement of, ‘Triple C,’ Rogan mentions the value the UFC fighter adds to the sport when he competes. In addition, he lauds his style of fighting and suggests his skillset cannot be scoffed at.

On his podcast, he said, “It sucks in one way because this guy sort of takes your place or takes a place. But on another way, it’s like he brings a lot of eyeballs to the division.” He added, “And also he elevates everything. Like that’s the reality of a Henry Cejudo. That guy is a f*cking wolverine. He really is.”
