With UFC Noche, the promotion and its CEO wanted to show their love and respect for the UFC fighters from Mexico on Mexican Independence Day. However, little did they know that the event would turn into a ‘debacle’ of sorts, with the heat being turned up on the UFC and its top brass even more than usual.
The event in question is the controversial fight between challenger Valentina Shevchenko and women’s flyweight champion Alexa Grasso. The fight saw a lot of heavy blows being landed by both fighters. However, in the end, the decision was not something that UFC fans, its CEO Dana White, or even Joe Rogan could get behind.

Joe Rogan discusses UFC Noche with the UFC bantamweight champion
One of the latest guests on Joe Rogan’s podcast was UFC bantamweight champion Sean O’Malley. The fighter came with his coach, Tim Welch, and the three were seen talking about a multitude of things. Then, Welch ended up asking Rogan a question regarding the UFC and its regulations. Which led to Joe Rogan talking about the UFC Noche fight between Grasso and Shevchenko.
Welch asked Rogan why Dana White doesn’t consider introducing ‘yellow cards’ in the UFC. To this, Joe Rogan initially replied, “That’s a good question.“.
Then Rogan used the ‘controversial’ UFC Noche ending and explained why yellow cards are difficult to introduce in the UFC. “Well, the problem with that is it’s so subjective. Right? Like, let’s look at this uh… Valentina Shevchenko, Alexa Grasso rematch, where one judge scores the final round – a pivotal fight round… it’s like that’s what makes the fight. One judge scores it 10-8. No one agrees with him. Literally, no one agrees with him. They’re like what the f**k.“, he concluded.
Then, O’Malley wondered what would have happened if the judges hadn’t ruled the fight the way they did and the scores had been different. Without waiting for O’Malley to finish, Rogan responded by saying, “Valentina wins. Then, Valentina wins.“. Then, the UFC champ said that he saw the fight while casually scrolling through his phone, and he thought that Grasso won 3 out of 5 rounds. However, Rogan remarked, saying, “Yeah, it’s hard. It’s hard to casually watch a fight.”.
Joe Rogan joined UFC CEO Dana White in disbelief over UFC Noche ruling. CSAC probing judges
When the fight between Valentina Shevchenko and Alexa Grasso ended, the fight fans were left in disbelief. Even UFC CEO Dana White refused to believe that judge Mike Bell actually scored the fight 10-8, which ended the fight in a draw. Due to this decision, Shevchenko, who showed a lot of heart and promise in the fight, was ‘robbed’ of the flyweight title. Grasso, who came in as the champ, left without a victory but retained the belt.

Dana White was infuriated with the decision and blasted judge Mike Bell for his scoring. “When I found out that one of the judges scored 10-8, I’m like, this guy should be f****** investigated for this. This is the craziest s*** I’ve ever seen in my life”, said White once he learned about the fiasco. Now, it seems White’s plea hasn’t fallen on deaf ears.

CSAC, or California State Athletic Commission, took this seriously and probed the matter. MMA Junkie was allowed to be present during the post-fight debrief, and their representative was allowed to ask the judges questions about their decision. This was the first time this was allowed in the sport’s history. The entire MMA world applauded CSAC for this major step they took in ensuring a fair fight is always maintained.
