The first-ever UFC heavyweight champion just let his chest get a little bit lighter. Mark Coleman defeated Dan Severn to become the first heavyweight champ of the organization. Now, years later, he has opened up about an unofficial backstage wrestling match with none other than Joe Rogan.

Rogan is a proficient mixed martial artist. However, he’s never been much of a professional wrestler. So up against someone like Coleman in a friendly little battle, Rogan had to work hard and smart. Nevertheless, it was all just fun and games until Rogan was shoved away. Coleman just admitted not being himself that day.

Coleman has fought his battles, both inside and outside of the cage. He’s still a very dedicated mixed martial artist, however, he is a retired one. He recently did an AMA session on his Instagram stories and fans asked him a whole load of questions. However, one of them seemed to take him to a darker place in his closet of memories.

A fan asked him about an old video of him and Rogan wrestling. The video is from the backstage setup of UFC 203. Rogan and he wrestle a bit before Coleman shoves the color commentator into a wall. Thankfully, Rogan bounces right back to get back at it. Looking back, Coleman recalled his battle with addiction.

“I was a hard-core alcoholic nothing ever good happened to me when I drank it was really foolish” he said in a sudden and gut-wrenching confession. Coleman has been increasingly open about his struggles with alcohol. It has affected his life in terrible and saddening ways and his fans have been witnesses.

He has also been very encouraging towards other people looking to quit. In fact, when Makhachev fought Charles Oliveira to claim the title, Coleman had quite a little emotional speech to say to everyone. A message he wanted to be written with his legacy.
