Joe Rogan has brought up an interesting perspective on Alex Pereira’s knockout of Jamahal Hill at UFC 300. The light heavyweight clash at the historic event featured Hill’s long-awaited return from an Achilles tendon injury that had forced him to relinquish the title in 2023. Meanwhile, ‘Poatan’ was making the first defense of the vacant belt he had secured by stopping former champion, Jiri Prochazka at UFC 295 in 2023.

The fight ended in the first round after a trademark left-hook by Pereira that floored ‘Sweet Dreams’ but there have been questions raised about the sequence of events leading up to the moment. And in a recent conversation with Max Holloway on the JRE MMA show no. 155, the UFC color commentator has echoed Jamahal Hill’s sentiments as he dove deeper into the fight-ending sequence that has raised eyebrows in the MMA community.

In a recent episode of his podcast, Joe Rogan revisited the knockout between Alex Pereira and Jamahal Hill at UFC 300, highlighting a potential issue with the sequence leading up to the finish. He stated, “I didn’t think anything of it at the time and then I watched it again I was like, there’s kind of a point there. And the point is, Jamahal accidentally hits him low, he like kicks him in the hip and Herb Dean comes in to stop it, then he (Pereira) does the super gangster thing but in the meantime, Jamahal has stopped and relaxed after he threw the kick, he gives him a thumbs up like you cool…”

According to Rogan, the pause between Herb Dean being waved away by Pereira and Hill relaxing for a moment was enough for Pereira to close the distance and advance forward against his opponent. The podcast host further went on to state, “…all of a sudden he’s on him and he hits him with that left hook. And I think Jamahal is saying, I would have never let him that close to me if it wasn’t for that nut shot and I didn’t know exactly what was going on.”

The comments by Jamahal Hill that he was referring to came from an interview ‘Sweet Dreams’ had with ‘The Schmo’ after the event where he revealed that he had stopped according to Herb Dean’s instructions. But since Pereira continued to close the distance immediately afterward, it led to Hill being put in a dangerous position he could have otherwise avoided.

Hill stated, “I would’ve liked to have had a more clean and better reset. I think that that would’ve been, that would’ve been one thing I would’ve liked to see differently.” And while watching back the footage of the finish, Rogan exclaimed, “Then he throws the kick, now watch this, they pause, Jamahal thumbs up but Pereira’s closed the gap now. He’s closed the gap a lot more than Jamahal probably would have let him.”

With Rogan’s commentary sparking further debate among fans and experts, the Pereira-Hill knockout remains a topic of interest and scrutiny within the MMA community. And according to a former ‘champ-champ’, the referee for the fight could have handled the situation differently!

Herb Dean’s fault pointed out by Daniel Cormier

As discussions surrounding the Pereira-Hill knockout continue, Daniel Cormier has also weighed in on the situation. Speaking on his YouTube channel, ‘DC’ noted,When you have an illegal strike, they are saying that they should have been separated and then they come back together as a fresh restart. It didn’t happen. Very short time later, Alex landed the shot that put Jamahal down and knocked him out, seconds after what should have been a restart.”
