Joe Rogan recently aired his latest episode of the Joe Rogan Experience podcast, and this time around, he has double champion Daniel Cormier as his guest. Cormier and Rogan discuss a variety of things in their recent podcast. However, the discussion intensified once Khabib Nurmagomedov and Islam Makhachev were thrown into the mix. Cormier has always been a fan of Nurmagomedov and the Dagestani fighters. 

This time, Cormier discusses why the next generation of the Dagestani fighters will be better than the current one. The podcast aired on 6th December and gave the viewers a new perspective towards the Dagestani fighters.

The world first witnessed a Dagestani fighter when Khabib Nurmagomedov entered the Octagon. Nurmagomedov ended his career with a record of 29-0 and dominated the UFC. While many believed him to be the complete fighter, in stepped Islam Makhachev – the current lightweight champion of the UFC who is dominating the division. 

As Rogan and Cormier discussed the dominance of the Dagestani fighter in the recent podcast, he said: ” We thought when we saw Khabib, right? That was the complete version of a Russian fighter. They see Islam, and he possesses all those same skills with the striking. With the striking, So what about the next one? Because there’s going to be another one cos there’s gonna be another one. They are just getting better and better now. 

Makhachev last fought Alexander Volkanovski in his first title defense at UFC 294. Previously, he was about to face Charles Oliveira, but the Brazilian later withdrew from the fight because of an injury. Makhachev dominated the fight and ended it via a knockout. The 32-year-old is ready to return to the ring in 2024 and wants to fight thrice in the year. But who will the Champion face next?

Makhachev last competed in the UFC 294 and is yet to enter the Octagon. He will return in 2024 and might face Charles Oliveira for a possible rematch. Both fighters previously met at UFC 280, and Makhachev came out on top. The 32-year-old dominated the fight and proved his worth against a formidable opponent. A potential rematch was on the cards at UFC 294 but did not materialize because of Oliveira’s injury.

The Brazilian last defeated Beneil Dariush at UFC 289 and is yet to return to the ring. Makhachev recently showed his interest in fighting three times in the year 2024. It will be interesting to see if the UFC lines up their potential rematch next. Will we see a potential rematch between the two fighters in 2024?
