Joe Rogan is a manly man. The UFC commentator grew up in a different time and holds contrasting views from the current generation on issues of masculinity. However, the Texas resident has a soft spot for fighters and couldn’t help but break into tears when reminiscing about Leon Edwards‘ iconic post-fight speech.
Rogan was joined by former two-division UFC champion Daniel Cormier on episode 150 of the JRE MMA Show, where the two re-watched Edwards’ post-fight speech after defeating welterweight champion Kamaru Usman last year. Joe Rogan cries re-watching Leon Edwards’ UFC 278 speech
Leon Edwards shook up the MMA world and defeated Kamaru Usman by a shocking fifth round head-kick knockout at UFC 278. ‘Rocky’ proceeded to give one of the most iconic post-fight interviews in UFC history, calling out his doubters and crowning the greatest achievement in his MMA career thus far.
“You all doubted me that I couldn’t do it. Look at me now. Look at it: pound-for-pound, headshot, dead. That’s it… Look at me now, look at me know. I told you it’s possible… I told you I can do it,” an emotional Edwards would tell Rogan.
During the course of Rogan’s podcast with ‘DC’, both men got on the topic of Edwards-Covington at UFC 296. They were excited for the fight and the podcast host started talking about how smooth ‘Rocky’s striking abilities were. Cormier reminded Rogan of Edwards’ incredible UFC 278 post-fight speech which prompted the host to ask Jamie to pull up the clip. And the stand-up comic got emotional while re-watching the speech.
“One of the smoothest fighter ever. He’s so smooth. you ever watch him hit the pads? Its a thing of art… That post-fight interview was wild. ‘Look at me now!’ Oh my god. Incredible. I’m tearing up,” Rogan told Cormier.
