Joe Rogan has often spoken stuff that has the netizens up in arms. However, not many had expected the UFC color commentator to travel all the way to the Olympics. Talking to Christian Angermayer and Dr. Aron D’Souza on episode #2166 of the Joe Rogan Experience, the podcaster opened up with his views on the games. And the major issue according to him was the winners not getting any prize money.

Rogan claimed, “I think the Olympics are disgusting.” He seemed to believe that the ones who won should get millions of dollars. “All of them should be getting millions of dollars. All the winners of the gold medals, all those people that are generating insane amounts of wealth for the Olympics, they should get a giant piece of that,” the podcaster continued. But when he claimed that people were watching the Olympics not because of the fame of the games, but because it brought together the top-notch players from all around the world, the netizens weren’t happy.

Back in November 2020, Rogan invited Luke Thomas to the studio for episode #98 of the JRE MMA Show. Therein, the duo conversed about the controversial UFC fighter pay. Rogan voiced, “I’m always for fighters getting paid more money, but I just, I don’t know if that would ever work… Obviously, you realize that stadiums bring in a significant amount of revenue. It’s a big deal.” He then went on to set Jon Jones as the example, for garnering huge amounts of money from the ticket sale. It was indeed the star factor of the fighter that could attract shiploads of fans to the arena.

Rogan ardently defended the need for the UFC to be reasonable in fighter pay since they had to be profitable for entities like Endeavor or WME before that to purchase the MMA giants. Rogan seemed to believe the Olympics generated big numbers from the audience and from advertisements. To counter this, Thomas asked if the UFC shared similar profits with their athletes, a sentiment the fans shared as well.

But when a Reddit user combined the two videos and shared it on the social media platform, the fans were left in a rage. The difference in attitude wasn’t liked by many. Let’s see what the netizens had to say about Rogan’s comments.

What’s your perspective on:

Is Joe Rogan being a hypocrite about Olympic athletes' pay, or does he have a point?

Have an interesting take?

Needless to say, the netizens took total control of the comments section with their views. However, most of the comments claimed that the beloved UFC color commentator was wrong in his take. Talking about the competitions and the popularity of the games, one fan wrote, “Joe is straight up wrong. The only reason people watch many of the competitions is because of the Olympics. Otherwise there would be a massive market for ppv ballroom dancing and wrestling and rhythmic gymnastics. Even track events that aren’t the olympics struggle for views. When was the last time there was a large audience for a major track event?”

While Rogan was proven wrong on multiple occasions, every new addition to his list of mistakes was a shock for the fans. But the netizens weren’t too humble about it. Claiming that Rogan talked about things he didn’t know, a comment read, “H*e is wrong about another thing he knows nothing about. I would be surprised.” Another fan added, “Joe knows literally nothing about sports outside his exact niche.” Meanwhile, one more comment read, “Idk how many more times I can just see blow getting something so dead wrong and keep watching. Like if he’s this wrong about something so simple everything else he says I’m suspicious of”

This wasn’t the first time Rogan talked about the Olympics. But this time around, the fans decided to bash the JRE host for being a hypocrite. He claimed that he always stood up for fighters getting paid more. However, that was backed by the fighters’ star factor. Without a doubt, athletes will get more money when they are the reason why arenas get a full house. But the netizens weren’t ready to accept it. A comment read, “Oh! What the heck! Rogan is hypocritical?! No way”

And just like Rogan likes to hype up the fighters, a few fans seemed to believe that he over-estimated the Olympics money as well. One account commented, “I think joe over estimates how much money the Olympics brings in.”
