The world of mixed martial arts has witnessed quite a few rivalries and disagreements between the fighters in the past. But a welterweight going off against a former heavyweight champion isn’t something that happens every day. And if you haven’t guessed it already, the entities in focus are Daniel Cormier and Joaquin Buckley

It all began when ‘New Mansa’ called out the Irish superstar, Conor McGregor, following his win against Nursulton Ruziboev at UFC on ESPN 56. Needless to say, his callout was answered with a simple “no” from Dana White. But things began to turn darker when DC claimed that it was a “horrible” callout. Soon after that, Buckley took to X and lashed out at Cormier, Chael Sonnen, and Michael Bisping for their opinions on his callout. But the former heavyweight champion wasn’t one to keep quiet. He sent forth an elaborate reply on X and lashed out at Buckley’s callout.

Now, talking to MMA Fighting, the welterweight contender has once again touched the heat with DC. Buckley said, “I’ve been praying to the MMA gods that I run into DC.” He commended Cormier for everything he has achieved in the world of martial arts and went on to claim that he was indeed a fan of DC.

However, ‘New Mansa’ didn’t like being shut down. He said, “But at the end of the day, it’s like, you know, as fighters, you know, I believe that for me, the things that I’m trying to do, I feel like DC could have helped me with trying to go where I’m trying to go. Instead of trying to diminish me or break me down, you know.” After all, Cormier has a massive following on social media and he could have let Buckley’s voice reach the targets via his talk shows. Well, that’s what Buckley seems to think.

The welterweight fighter continued, “I feel like me and DC, man, I would love to see DC, but it’s not on some personal like, ‘As soon as I see DC, I’m fitting to swing on him.’ No, because I ain’t about that, right? You know, if DC wants to make it like that, which I highly doubt, right? But at the end of the day, we can always get this work in as martial artists, you know, and hash it out.”

Joaquin Buckley receives warnings as he trifles with Daniel Cormier

Cormier has proven himself as one of the strongest heavyweights to have ever graced the Octagon. Becoming the UFC heavyweight champion is nothing short of an achievement. Needless to say, the former champ has earned a stable space in the fight fans’ hearts. But when Buckley began to poke at DC, the fighting community sent a warning and claimed that Cormier could easily rise victorious if he ever fought Buckley. The outcome of ‘David vs. Goliath’ doesn’t always end with David’s victory in real life. And the fight fans knew it fairly well. One fan wrote, “DC would do terrible things to Buckley fighting shape or not” Meanwhile, another fan quoted, “DC boutta throw Buckley into the earths core.” Some of the fans advised Buckley to take Cormier’s advice. One fan wrote, “If he has such a massive voice and following, maybe take his advice then.”

Some fans even brought in Cormier’s friendship with legendary fighters like Khabib Nurmagomedov and Islam Makhachev. One of the comments read, “I would not f**k with DC bro as Islam and Khabib as his best friends.” To add to the pressure, one fan revealed that Cormier still trained hard. The comment read, “That’s not a fight he wants. Daniel still train at AKA lol.”

One of the fans pointed out how strong DC was, being a champion of two separate divisions. But apparently, many in the fighting community seemed to undermine the true strength of the UFC commentators. The comment read, “I’ll never understand why fighters talk about DC like his just a commentator. That’s the former 2-division champ, he’s not scared of any of y’all.”

With the temperature rising between Buckley and Cormier, the MMA realm might soon witness a heated drama between the two, don’t you think? But a clash between the two is something that’s not likely to happen at all. But what are your thoughts on Buckley’s callout? Do you think DC was right to undermine his callout?
