The UFC is filled with inkheads in its roster where many fighters sport elaborate tattoos that speak to their roots, journeys, or simply their love for pop culture. Some of the biggest stars like Conor McGregor, Israel Adesanya, and Tom Aspinall sport tattoos that reflect their personas and fighting journeys. As for UFC light heavyweight Jimmy Crute, he may not have tattoos as elaborate as the other fighters mentioned above, and his tattoos may not reflect his journey as a fighter but rather show his love for popular franchises.
Through his tattoos, it’s clear that Crute is a fan of video games and anime. Ahead of his fight against Rodolfo Bellato at UFC 312, let’s take a closer look at the body art of the one they refer to as ‘The Brute’ inside the Octagon.

Much like Israel Adesanya also called ‘The Last Stylebender’ Crute seems to love anime, in particular, the Avatar: The Last Airbender series. Both these fighters seem to have a soft spot for earth-bending queen Toph Beifong, a character who is blind but is the most powerful earth and metal bender in the series. While ‘Izzy’ has her tattoo on his forearm, Crute has the symbol of the Earth kingdom tattooed on his chest.
As for the right side of his chest, Crute displays his love for gaming and the Resident Evil franchise in particular, with a tattoo of the Umbrella Corporation. The Umbrella Corporation is a fictional multinational conglomerate responsible for the T-Virus zombie outbreak in the Resident Evil universe. While answering fan questions before UFC Fight Island 6, the 12-4-1 Australian light heavyweight fighter opened up about his tattoos in detail.
An Instagram user with the handle @liamhelleher asked, “What does the tattoo on your chest mean?” In reply, Crute revealed his nerdy and otaku side and said, “It’s pretty nerdy actually. So that one’s from Avatar: The Last Airbender. Me and my siblings got the different signs. My one’s earth. And this one [right chest] is from Resident Evil which, me and my sister got matching [tattoos]; oh she got the other sign from Resident Evil.” Interestingly, the co-creator of Avatar: The Last Airbender, Bryan Konietzko, even posted a video of Crute fighting, showing his appreciation for the fighter’s love for the series.

But Crute’s chest tattoos aren’t the only body art that he sports. The Australian light heavyweight has arm sleeve tattoos. Let’s take a closer look.
Meaning behind the UFC star’s arm tattoo
There isn’t a lot of information available about Jimmy Crute’s arm tattoos, especially since ‘The Brute’ himself didn’t elaborate on them in the aforementioned video. But from the looks of it, he has tattoos of what looks like a mummy (or a face draped with panels that have symbols on it), a samurai with a shogun head gear, and what looks like a character (Goku?) with the ‘King Kai’ symbol from the Dragon Ball series.

Fans love a nerd who is amazing at fighting. Crute has had some run-ins with amazing fighters like Paul Craig, Jamahal Hill, and Anthony Smith. He won 4 of his 9 fights in UFC and lost 4 of them while one was a draw. And he is not just amazing at it, he works hard for it. The Australian star credited four words from his father Gary who saved him from premature retirement. Speaking with Fox Sports Australia, Crute revealed the first time he felt like retiring during the International Fight Week card in Las Vegas.
He said “Dad just said to me ‘Not like this mate’. He told me if I was done, it was fine. But he said I needed to think about it first.” Thankfully he listened to his father and didn’t retire, and now is coming back for UFC 312 against Rodolfo Bellato.
