The combat sports world came together to mourn Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu legend Leandro Lo after he was shot dead last August. Lo was shot after getting involved in a back-and-forth with an off-duty cop at a club. Close to a year later, the developments of the case may not be satisfying to the fans. According to recent reports, the police offer who shot Lo will receive his retroactive salary.
Leandro Lo got into an argument with military police officer Henrique Velozo at a club in the south zone of São Paulo. The eight-time IBJJF world champion neutralized Velozo in a brief scuffle. As Lo was walking away, the officer pulled his gun and shot him in the head.
Velozo surrendered to the police later and was arrested. The authorities charged him with murder and detained him in the Romao Gomes Military Prison ever since. They also suspended his pay from August, when he got arrested. Now, it seems like the State will reimburse him for the withheld salary.
