If Donald Trump is elected President of the United States on November 4, JD Vance will become the second-most powerful man in the world. Vance, of course, is Trump’s Vice Presidential pick for the 2024 election since the former President had a falling out with his previous VP, Mike Pence.

Just how the Ohio Senator found out he got the gig is also quite an interesting story, which Vance told Joe Rogan recently. The Republican VP candidate joined Rogan on episode #2221 of the JRE podcast, where the UFC commentator started off by asking him the story of how he got the job.

“What happened is I get a text message from a staff member on his [Trump’s] team that says ‘You just missed a very important phone call.’ And I don’t know, you know, ‘cuz there’s so much inbound traffic that I think it just went straight to voicemail,” Vance told Rogan.

Which, of course, portended ill omens for Vance, who was afraid it might have hurt his chances of being picked. And the beginning of his phone call seemed to confirm his worst fears. “So I call him back and I’m like ‘Hey sir, what’s going on?’ He said ‘JD you just missed a very important phone call, I’m going to have to pick somebody else now.’ So I’m about to s**t a brick here,” he revealed.

Fortunately, however, the former President was joking. “And then he [Trump] says ‘No, no I’m just kidding obviously. I want you to be my Vice President,’ Vance added, as he and Rogan had a good laugh about it. However, what amused the sitting Senator was his son’s reaction to the whole thing.

JD Vance continued, revealing that his seven-year-old son, Ewan was in the room with him during the fateful phone call. Trump insisted the Senator put him on the line. Which he did, and the former President read out to Ewan the statement that he was going to put out publicly, announcing Vance as his pick. At which point the Senator breathed a sigh of relief. But his son, on the other hand, was innocently clueless about the magnitude of what had happened to his father.

“And he talks to my son and he reads the statement that he is going to put out on Truth Social announcing that I’m the VP nominee of the Republican party. And he’s like ‘What do you think about that Ewan? And my son’s like ‘Oh that’s pretty good, that’s pretty good.’ He gives the phone back to me, he’s like ‘I have no idea what the hell is going on,’ Vance reminisced.

Whether or not Vance will indeed be the next Vice President of the United States will be revealed on Monday after the polls have closed. With the polls showing a dead heat between Trump and Kamala Harris, it is a good idea that Vance followed Trump’s lead and appeared on JRE, the most popular and influential podcast in America. Especially among the Trump-Vance campaign’s strongest support base, young men.
