An unforeseen injury has shattered the dreams of Jamahal Hill. Hill rose to the light heavyweight throne after winning against Glover Teixeira in UFC 283. After a five-round, ferocious battle, the judges scored in favor of Hill. After winning against Teixeira, the Michigan native was looking forward to fighting former UFC light heavyweight champion Jan Blachowicz. However, things took a different turn when ‘Sweet Dreams’ faced an Achilles tear.

Hill captured the attention of the UFC community with his brilliant fights. Currently, his MMA record stands at 12 victories and just one loss. After becoming the UFC light heavyweight champion, ‘Sweet Dreams’ was getting ready to destroy his next opponent. However, the injury he suffered is similar to an ACL injury. Hence, the 32-year-old will have to undergo surgery, followed by complete rest for a prolonged period.

MMA reporter Damon Martin took to his Twitter handle to give updates on Hill’s injury. He tweeted, “Quick update on this — Jamahal Hill expected to have surgery on his ruptured Achilles’ tendon next Monday. Recovery time on that kind of injury is mixed — anywhere between 6 months to one year — similar to an ACL injury.

As per reports, Hill suffered the injury during a basketball match between the UFC fighters ahead of UFC 290. Hill’s injury is quite severe, and it needs a great deal of rest and rehabilitation. The only way left for him is to take a break from fighting and focus on his recovery. Being the light-heavyweight champion, a number of interesting matchups were in line for him. But those fights will have to wait.

It is clear that Hill won’t be able to fight in the UFC for the next six to twelve months. Hill came forward to give a detailed account of what had happened to him. He mentioned that he needed time to recover from the injury. The 32-year-old further added that he was going to do exactly what Jiri Prochazka did. Prochazka relinquished his title after he faced a shoulder injury. ‘Sweet Dreams’ too did the same to keep the division active in his absence. He doesn’t want the division to remain stagnant without the presence of the champion.
