Former UFC light heavyweight champion, Jamahal Hill is currently facing legal troubles. According to a report by TMZ sports, the former champion was arrested in Michigan earlier this week on charges related to domestic violence. Hill became the UFC light heavyweight champion at UFC 283 when he defeated veteran Glover Teixeira via unanimous decision.

Hill revealed in a YouTube video on his channel that he had ruptured an Achilles tendon that required surgery and as such he was forced to relinquish the belt. Reports online state that Hill was booked at a Kent County Jail. The booking occurred on Monday at approximately 1 AM. Hill was released later that same evening. Prosecutors also formally charged the fighter with one count of misdemeanor aggravated domestic violence.
The court documents obtained by TMZ sports indicate that officials have alleged Hill assaulted James Anthony Hill JR. The documents also contain allegations that Hill inflicted “serious or aggravated injury upon him”.
The alleged victim, Hill Jr., is the brother of Jamahal Hill and a resident or former resident of his household. Further details about the incident and Hill’s involvement were not available at the time of writing this article.

Hill is scheduled for a court hearing in January to address the charges. In a report from TMZ, it was revealed that Hill’s representative, Brian Butler of Suckerpunch Entertainment, released a statement asserting Hill’s innocence and denying the accusations.
The statement emphasized that “The recent ‘clickbait’ headlines about Jamahal Hill were based on an alleged dispute between him and his older brother, Jamahal adamantly maintains his innocence and denies the false accusations. We will not be commenting anymore about this until the truth comes out in court.”
It remains to be seen how the story unfolds, but things may not be too bright for Hill in MMA either. The new light heavyweight champion seems to have taken interest in a different foe, despite Hill being the next rightful challenger.
‘Poatan’ isn’t concerned about Hill and his challenge
Alex Pereira, the current UFC light heavyweight champion, has responded to Jamahal Hill’s challenge for a “standing knockout” in a potential matchup. Pereira, known for his knockout power, doubts Hill’s commitment to standing and striking. He also revealed that there’s another matchup in the division that intrigues him more than Hill!
During a live YouTube Q&A, Pereira expressed skepticism about Hill’s confident statements, emphasizing “Sure, obviously every guy who could be the next [challenger] for the champion will start talking, but I think he’s a little bit [overconfident].”
Pereira, a two-division champion in MMA and kickboxing, highlighted his achievements, including victories over Jiri Prochazka, Israel Adesanya, and Sean Strickland. Having passed tough tests in the division, Pereira sees Hill as the next logical challenge.

Despite Hill being his preferred opponent, Pereira has also stated that he would prefer to take on Magomed Ankalaev instead of Hill if the opportunity presents itself. He revealed, “Ankalaev would be more difficult. I think it’s a very good challenge for me. It would be a more difficult guy.”
The comments indicate that Hill might have difficulty in climbing back to title contention when he makes his return to the UFC. With the legal troubles and Pereira’s statements, it highlights the current difficulties being faced by Hill, both inside and outside the UFC.
