Is Dana White really holding Conor McGregor hostage, or is Jake Paul just stirring the pot?

Conor McGregor has been trying to get inside the octagon for quite a while now. But can he? According to Jake Paul, he apparently cannot. Why? Maybe because Dana White does not want to make him fight the last two fights left in his contract. He explained the same on his podcast recently while speaking to Francis Ngannou.

Paul tried to clear up why McGregor might not be getting the fights, even though he missed UFC 303 for a toe injury because of his UFC contract. He said, “So that’s what is happening to Conor McGregor right now for the people at home who don’t understand it. They’re like why is it not? Why is Conor not fighting?”

He continued that ‘The Notorious’ has two fights left on his contract with UFC. However UFC is now at the end of their contract with ESPN as well, which will expire in 2025 so they are looking for new partners to renew their deal. Since they license their content through different platforms, they have to negotiate with prospects for the best offer.

Paul explained, “ But let’s say it’s gonna go with ESPN, they are trying to renew the deal and get the most amount of money. A part of that negotiation is hey we have Conor McGregor for two more fights but if he were to fight now, that would not be a part of the negotiation.”

Now the thing is, the window for UFC to Ink a new Broadcast rights deal officially opens from January 2025. Right now ESPN has all the rights to any content that UFC decides to release. This contract has also been lucrative for both the parties till now. On the other hand, TKO Group Holdings president Mark Shapiro revealed that many bidders have inquired about gaining the broadcast fights for the UFC once negotiations begin later this year. So the YouTuber turned boxer is insinuating that they want to keep McGregor for this lucrative negotiation rather than give him his last two fights and make him a free agent. Now that this is all said and done, do you think Connor McGregor thinks the same?

Conor McGregor’s outlook on his UFC contract

After getting injured brutally while fighting against Dustin Poirier, ‘The Notorious’ had to have a leg surgery. As we all know, he was on a hiatus for almost 2 years and was going to come back at UFC 303. But as fate would have it, he injured his toe and had to withdraw from the fight against Michael Chandler.

What’s your perspective on:

Is Dana White really holding Conor McGregor hostage, or is Jake Paul just stirring the pot?

Have an interesting take?

Even though he had a chance of coming back, another injury took it away. On top of that, Dana White is also becoming a thorn on his path because he declared that McGregor would not be in any fights in 2024. While it was believed that UFC 310 in December would see the two weight champion inside the octagon, there has been no announcement.

The Dubliner can sense what is happening and took to Instagram to express his resentment towards the boss. He was seen training in a video and the caption of the same was a simple line saying, “When I get free.” ‘Mystic Mac’ has only two fights left in the promotion, but it is clear that he is stuck with the promotion because of the obligations in the contract.

Do you think he’s going to get the fights that he wants? Or UFC is going to keep him stuck? Tell us your thoughts below.
