Michael Bisping recently sat down for an interview with TNT Sports to review the UFC 293 PPV fights. During this discussion, Bisping was asked for his take on the million-dollar question: Should ‘Izzy’ be getting an immediate rematch after his UFC 293 loss? Replying to the query, Bisping didn’t mince his words at all. He believes it might be time to usher in some fresh blood and narratives in the Middleweight division. Likewise, he furthered his take on the rematch:

“If it’s me – we’ve got Dricus du Plessis, we’ve got Robert Whittaker, we’ve got Khamzat Chimaev. This would allow the division to move on and have a breath of fresh air and maybe some new eras begin. And in the meantime, Izzy can go away and have a well-deserved break…”

He mentioned a promising roster of fighters, including Dricus du Plessis, Robert Whittaker, and Khamzat Chimaev, who could step into the spotlight. Allowing these fighters to take center stage would provide the division with a breath of fresh air and potentially initiate new eras. “I think there was certainly an air of arrogance in the corner of Israel Adesanya, and from Izzy himself. Even when he was dropped in the first round, and very very close to being finished. He had just kind of like – he had a kind of a snug look on his face…” – Bisping added.

Bisping noted a seeming lack of concern – almost as if the ‘Stylebender’ underestimated the threat posed by ‘Tarzan’. Moreover, his analysis extended further as he delved into ‘Izzy’s recent record. So, what’s the UFC Hall-of-Famer’s take on ‘Izzy’ getting a rematch?

Michael Bisping’s take on Israel Adesanya and his entitlement to a rematch with ‘Tarzan’

Bisping pointed out that the ‘Stylebender’ has now lost two out of his last three fights. While Adesanya’s rematch with arch-rival Alex Pereira was justified due to their history – his loss to Strickland complicates the picture. In Bisping’s view, two losses in three fights don’t necessarily warrant an immediate rematch:

“The thing with Alex Pereira – because of the history with Pereira and because he was such a dominant champion. Of course – without a question, you made that rematch. He came back – he had a spectacular win over Pereira, but then he just lost to Sean Strickland. So, he has lost now, two times out of the last three. I don’t think that’s enough to warrant an immediate rematch.”

But he also acknowledged ‘Izzy’s significant contributions to the UFC, from his charisma to his success as a pay-per-view draw. Backing Dana White’s decision for a rematch, he asserted, “However, he has been a workhorse. He has been a gift to the promotion. He has been wildly charismatic and a PPV box-office success.”
