In a recent interview with Chael Sonnen on Brendan Schaub’s podcast, an interesting angle to Conor McGregor’s relationship with UFC President Dana White took center stage. Schaub shed light on McGregor’s dedication to the sport, despite his notorious antics and personal controversies outside the Octagon.

When reflecting on the iconic fight between Conor McGregor and Khabib Nurmagomedov, Schaub pointed out an intriguing dynamic between the duo. He emphasized that McGregor is not just an employee or a fighter, but rather, he and White are ‘partners’. This observation came to light during a moment of vulnerability, immediately after the Khabib fight.

As chaos ensued following Khabib’s post-fight actions, the Irishman found himself distraught and in tears. White entered the locker room, trying to make sense of the situation. He asked the fighter about what he thought of his opponent’s actions, but the Irishman’s response surprised everyone. With his head down and eyes tearing up, he made it clear that the events happening around him were of little significance.

Schaub said, “You see that Conor is not just an employee, he’s just not a fighter… you see – they are partners. The way he talks to Dana, I went- ‘Oh wow! I’ve never seen that.’ Because Dana comes into the locker room, after he[Conor] loses to Khabib and that… remember Khabib jumps into the stands… goes for Dillon Danis… it’s chaos!

Schaub pointed out McGregor’s emphasis on the fact that the only thing that mattered to him was the loss he had just experienced. The defeated champ disregarded the all-around chaos and proclaimed, “I lost, the better man won.” His raw emotion and genuine focus on his defeat left the UFC President taken aback.

‘The Thiccboy’ also hinted at McGregor’s despair, after losing the match, as the Irishman seemed to realize the intensity of what had just happened. “… his head’s down and he’s crying and Dana goes- ‘Man! What happened? Can you believe Khabib jumped off?’ Connor looks and goes- ‘I don’t give a sh*t about any of that dude! I lost man… and he[Dana] goes- ‘No dude, was it Dillon?’ and Connor goes – ‘You’re not listening! I do not care about that dude… I lost, the better man won. All that stuff is bullsh*t!…

“And you can see, Dana’s like – ‘Oh okay’.”

“I’m like – ‘Man, I’ve never seen ever in my life someone speak to Dana that way’…”

For Brendan, it was evident that ‘The Notorious’ spoke to White with a level of candor and partnership, rather than mere fighter-to-promoter communication. This particular moment captivated him, who had never witnessed anyone interact with the UFC President in such a way.
