The TRT era of the UFC was wild. Not as wild as the early UFC- no weight classes, no time limits, no Unified rules but still pretty wild. It was either the best or the worst time in UFC history, depending on who you ask.
Athletic commissions would allow fighters to apply for and go on testosterone replacement therapy, essentially a license for the performance-enhancing substance, until it was banned in 2014. And doping is a very serious business in the sport. The most common and potent argument against Jon Jones being the GOAT is that he ‘cheated’ by doping. However, Jones is adamant that he has never cheated and has given a surprising reason for saying so.

Jon Jones fought Daniel Cormier in their highly anticipated rematch at UFC 214 in 2017. ‘Bones’ defeated ‘DC’ via a devastating head-kick knockout. However, he tested positive for a picogram amount of the steroid Turinabol in the testing for the fight. The California State Athletic Commission (CSAC) would overturn his win to a ‘No Contest.
However, USADA would later go on to change its rules in 2019 so that 100 picograms of a banned substance would not be considered a doping violation. And Jones has been arguing that his no-contest should be overturned to a win in accordance with the new rules. In a recent tweet, the heavyweight champion has reiterated demand and criticized the anti-doping body for its inconsistency.
“Man I survived USADA. First they said I was guilty of having picograms, then they considered me innocent, next picograms became legal. Guess what I’m still here, still unbeaten. That BS no contest over DC needs to be taken off my record. I’ve never cheated this sport and I will stand by that until the Day I die.,” he tweeted.

He declared that he was still unbeaten and that he had not cheated in the sport. It should be noted, however, that this is not the only time Jones has tested positive for such substances. USADA has busted the American thrice for banned substances.

USADA and UFC to part ways in 2024
The UFC and USADA have decided to split ways in January 2024, USADA CEO Travis Tygart said in a statement. One of the main issues behind their parting ways, according to him, is the Conor McGregor saga, where the body made it clear that McGregor would have to serve the full six months in its testing pool before being allowed to fight in line with its rules.

The CEO referenced “statements made by UFC leaders and others questioning USADA’s principled stance” as another reason behind the split. USADA has been with the UFC since 2015. What do you think about Jones wanting the no-contest overturned? Let us know in the comments section below.
