After hanging up his gloves earlier this year, Jorge Masvidal has turned to being a full-time boxing promoter. He is involved with various promotions, such as his Gamebred Bareknuckle and Gamebred MMA promotions, as well as iKon FC.

And, except for a little back-and-forth with old foe Ben Askren, the Cuban-American has fully transitioned to his new role. Masvidal has been out promoting his upcoming event, which would see UFC veterans Fabricio Werdum and Junior dos Santos fight each other in a bareknuckle boxing match. And, ten years after Joe Rogan shared Mark Hunt‘s nasty staph infection on Twitter, ‘Gamebred’ talked about his struggle with the disease in an interview.

In an interview with comedian and podcaster Kim Congdon, he talked about his immune system improving after starting to train in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. He speculated that it was because he had to be in close contact with different people while grappling. This, according to him, strengthened his immunity system and he has not suffered from ringworm since starting BJJ.

“If you’re a germaphobe, this [jiu-jitsu] boosts your immune system up. You’re coming into contact with so many people, you’re exchanging sweat, they’re coughing on you if they’re sick they might let out a cough, you know. Your immune system will drop in the beginning but then it’ll pick up and it’ll be better than I think most regular people,” he said.

“I’ve seen it [ringworms and staph infection], and I’ve had it numerous times. And then it came to a point in my life I never got it again, like my body build a crazy immunity to it yeah the more I was on the mat,” he added.

He stated that he does not want to do it because he is retired from the MMA. ‘Gamebred’ had knocked out Askren with a flying knee for the quickest knockout in UFC history.
