UFC president Dana White never really shies away from making strong statements, especially when it has to do with the sport of mixed martial arts or anything closely related to it. While the 53-year-old often manages to distance himself from certain topics, the subject of bad referring is certainly not one of them.

While speaking to media following UFC San Antonio, White chimed in on the recent refereeing gaffe that took place in an MMA event. Fans will be quite familiar with the controversial clip in question, where a fighter ended up getting choked out and then put in an armbar due to the referee’s incompetency. Incidentally, the same official, Frank Collazo, was also a part of the UFC San Antonio judges panel.

Expressing his disgust at the turn of events in the particular fight, White claimed he hated seeing things like that play out during fights.

“Obviously, I wasn’t there to see it but I saw it on social, and yeah that’s the kind of stuff that I really really don’t like,” explained White.

He even went on to describe it as the worst scenario that could possibly take place in a fight. Criticizing the official for a lack of judgment, he states, “I mean, if a guy gets choked unconscious and you don’t know he’s choked unconscious… everybody has a bad night everybody makes mistakes. But if a guy gets choked unconscious and then they pull him into an arm bar. I mean it doesn’t get any worse than that.”

And it surely doesn’t get any worse than that. The fact that it was quite evident that the fighter was not in a state to defend himself and for the referee to not stop the fight came as a shock to fans who witnessed this sequence go down.

For the UFC president, this incident reminded him of another controversial referee, Steve Mazzagatti.

“..it’s the one that I went after Mazzagatti so bad about when Josh Burkman choked out, what’s the kid’s name? The wrestler choked him unconscious and Mazzagatti had no idea he was unconscious.” White recalled.

It wouldn’t be surprising if MMA fans also found similarities between Mazzagatti and Frank Collazo, the individual responsible for the latest controversy.

But what got fans talking was the inclusion of Frank Collazo as one of the judges for the fight. Coming off the controversial fight that he was a part of; it came as quite a shock to see the same individual a part of the officials on a UFC main card.
