In the world of UFC, rivalries often give way to mutual respect as fighters set aside their differences once their battle concludes. Many fans are expecting something similar in UFC 292. As the PPV’s main event will witness UFC bantamweight champ Aljamain Sterling defend his title against Sean O’Malley.

During the interview, the interviewer posed Sterling with the question of whether he would reconcile with O’Malley post-fight. ‘Funk Master’ responded with a candid outlook! He stated that the outcome of the fight and the emotions that arise will determine their post-match interaction. Moreover, he alluded to O’Malley’s previous actions, including an eye-poking incident against Pedro Munhoz.
“That’s usually what happens. We’ll see what type of emotions happen after the fight, we’ll see how the fight plays out. We’ll see if Sean tries to poke my eyes out the same way he did Pedro Munoz,” he said. Further, Sterling acknowledged the intrinsic respect that emerges after the battle. However, he also emphasized the personal stakes that are on the line in the fight.
In his own words, he explained the intense dynamics of their matchup, underlining their shared objective of gaining supremacy. “There’s always respect afterward but in the beginning, it’s personal. You’re trying to take something from me and you’re trying to do something to me that’s not the nicest,” he added.

In a continued exchange, Sterling raised doubts about the caliber of opponents Sean O’Malley has encountered. He noted that, truthfully, there is just a solitary fighter, Petr Yan, whom O’Malley secured a split decision victory over, and who remains active in the UFC.
“Let’s be honest, there’s only one guy that he’s actually beaten by a split decision that’s still in the UFC and that’s Petr Yan. Everybody else, they’re no longer in the UFC company,” he said. Further, ‘Funk Master’ contrasted this with his own record, where all his defeated adversaries remain within the UFC fold.
