At UFC 292, Ian Garry managed to defeat Neil Magny in a dominant fashion. After three one-sided rounds, Garry was ahead of his veteran rival on the scorecards of all three judges. With a final score of 30-24, this was not just the best performance of the Irishman’s MMA career, but one of the best in the history of the entire promotion.

A veteran of 38 fights, Magny is widely considered one of the most charismatic strikers in the UFC. However, despite his experience, ‘The Haitian Sensation’ clearly looked outclassed by his younger opponent, eventually leading to one of the most one-sided scorecards in the history of the sport.

Ian Garry compares his performance to Khabib Nurmagomedov’s UFC 219 performance

During the post-fight press conference of UFC 292, Ian Garry compared his performance to that of Khabib Nurmagomedov. This response came despite not fully meeting his earlier prediction. Garry explained that he could have gone for the finish but chose to play it safe to avoid a choke. In his own words:“I know what I’m capable of, I know what I’m able to win and do to these people. My timing, my speed, it’s just different. But it’s my intelligence, it’s my intelligence.”

For those wondering, Ian Garry had previously stated that he would finish Neil Magny in under eight minutes. However, instead of a finish, the Irishman secured a unanimous decision win over the veteran Magny. He compared this to Khabib Nurmagomedov’s performance against Edson Barboza at UFC 219, where Khabib dominated for three rounds, winning with a score of 30-25.

A compatriot of Conor McGregor, Garry is often compared to his fellow Irishman, something ‘The Future’ acknowledges. Ironically, the former Cage Warrior welterweight champion compared his latest performance to McGregor’s most bitter rival. This comparison makes sense considering ‘Notorious’ was best known for his finishes. In fact, during his entire UFC run, ‘Mystic Mac’s’ fights went to judges only twice.

What’s Next for Ian Garry?

Since his debut in 2021, Ian Machado Garry has been widely regarded as one of the greatest rising talents in the UFC. He has proven this with his undefeated run in the promotion, including his domination of a veteran like Magny. However, according to Dana White, many top talents in the UFC’s 170 lb division do not want to fight the rising Irish sensation.

According to the UFC president, Stephen ‘Wonderboy’ Thompson is one of those. Furthermore, White revealed his plans for a fight in Dublin for ‘The Future.’ But before that, he wants Garry to fight at Madison Square Garden instead, hinting at a potential bout at UFC 295, scheduled to take place at MSG later this year.
