The former Fear Factor host took the first step towards MMA in his early teens. After winning numerous competitions, the commentator decided to quit professional fighting as the physical damage caused during each fight concerned him. In a recent episode of his podcast, ‘The Joe Rogan Experience,’ the commentator talked about spinning back kicks and got nostalgic about his Taekwondo tournament.

 In the #1998 episode of JRE, Rogan’s guest was the stand-up comic and writer Ali Siddiq. During the two-hour, forty-one-minute conversation, they covered a wide range of subjects. Being a combat sports lover and an athlete himself, Rogan began to talk about kicks. He said, “If you get kicked to the body, oh my god. A kick to the body is so goddamn devastating, especially a spinning back kick. You could literally pick someone up in the air. So I think it’s like they are hit by a car”

After talking about spinning back kick, Rogan asked to show his video where Rogan defeated his opponent in a Taekwondo tournament. The tournament took place in 1987. When the UFC commentator and his opponent came face to face, Rogan was able to defeat his opponent through a spinning back kick.

Rogan continued, “Show me the video of me knocking the dude. This is from the Taekwondo tournament when I hit this kid who was spinning back kick to the body. You could see how hard it is, and I was 155 pounds.From Rogan’s words, it is clear that he was proud of himself as an athlete.

In the #1993 episode of JRE, Rogan talked about how MMA helps build a person’s character. He feels that an athlete derives focus and discipline from the process of becoming successful. However, there are negative sides to this as well. The 55-year-old mentioned the hidden dangers of combat sports. There were incidents when fighters had to go through life-threatening situations after suffering severe injuries in a fight. Rogan emphasizes the seriousness of the lack of safety in combat sports. He says that fighters may even face brain damage and have their lives ruined.
