Miesha Tate is inarguably one of the most popular MMA stars to ever be a part of the sport. ‘Cupcake’ is a former UFC champion and has an impressive MMA record of  (19-7). Tate had stepped away from the UFC in 2016 after losing her fight against Raquel Pennington. However, the fighter recently returned to the Octagon as she faced and defeated Marion Reneau at the UFC Vegas 31 event.

Ever since Tate has returned to action, many people have been speculating about just one thing. That is a potential rematch between Miesha Tate and Holly Holm. ‘The Preacher’s Daughter’ and Tate had earlier faced each other at the UFC 196 event. ‘Cupcake’ had won that fight via a 5th round submission to become the UFC champion.

That fight between Tate and Holm was incredible and therefore fans have been eagerly waiting for a rematch between the two. However, now ‘Cupcake’ is set to face Ketlen Vieira at the UFC Fight Night 195 event. Therefore, during a recent interview on The MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani, Tate was asked why a match-up with Holm was not made.

‘Cupcake’ gave her reasoning behind not going for the Holm rematch right now. She said, “It wasn’t Holly for the reason that I feel like that’s like a golden egg fight. That’s like a fight that we could do at any time, at any point, it’ll never die. It’s like Diaz-Conor 3, it’s like it’s always kind of available and there.”

“So I wanted my next fight to be a proper climb in the rankings. I don’t want to come in and insult the division. I don’t want to come in and say, ‘Oh, I should be fighting a top-1 or top-2, and Holly, she’s ranked No. 2.”

Miesha Tate says she wanted to face the winner of the Ketlen Vieira vs Sara McMann fight

Many fans were expecting to see a rematch between Miesha Tate and Holly Holm. That, however, did not happen as a fight between ‘Cupcake’ and Vieira has been set for UFC Fight Night 195.

Tate, however, has revealed that she is excited to face Ketlen Vieira and is looking forward to the challenge.

She said, “Personally, I wanted the winner of Ketlen Vieira and Sara McMann. But with Sara getting injured and dropping out of that, obviously, Ketlen is left without. Holly has a fight already, and I think everyone else is either injured, fighting, pregnant, or just had a baby.”

“So honestly it’s kind of a crazy time in the division right now, but Kelten sounds like a very fine opponent, somebody I haven’t gotten to fight yet, kind of fresh blood in the UFC, and I’m excited about that potential matchup.”
