During a recent interview, Dana White was asked about the possibility of Nick Diaz fighting this year, and everyone expected the answer to be negative. However, White surprised everyone by saying how he is optimistic about Diaz competing this year.
While in conversation White said, “Yeah, I wasn’t very high on it. I didn’t think that it would happen but look like it will. Looks like Nick Diaz will fight this year.”
For the first time, White seemed confident about Diaz returning to action. When asked about whether he had any discussion with Diaz, White said. “Just the last time I saw him in Jacksonville, yeah, but it looks like it’s gonna happen, so we’ll see. The matchmakers have had talks with him, but I don’t know where we’re on it, but it’s looking promising.”

While now seems confident about Diaz fighting in 2021, just a few months back he wasn’t so sure. White had said, “My whole thing with Nick Diaz is I just question how bad he really wants to fight. We got together, we had a great conversation, talked about a possible comeback for him. I just don’t know.”
Diaz had surprised fans when he appeared at the UFC 261 event. And at that time White had talked about how the UFC would love to give Diaz a fight if he would look to return.
Who could Nick Diaz face on his return to the UFC?
While Diaz is set to return to action this year, it is still unclear who the fighter will face on his return. While there have been many names suggested as Diaz’s potential opponent, the three names that seem the most plausible are Jorge Masvidal, Carlos Condit, and Robbie Lawler.
Masvidal is one of the most popular UFC fighters of the current era, however consecutive losses against Usman have certainly affected him. Masvidal will have to work extremely hard to get back into the title picture and a fight against Diaz could be the first step in that journey.

Condit is someone who Diaz has faced earlier and the two share a great rivalry. Therefore, this could be a fight UFC fans can behind and would love to watch. However, the best fight for Diaz to return would be against Robbie Lawler. Lawler is looking to make a comeback himself and a fight between the two would be epic to watch.
