Dricus Du Plessis is on his way to be the next big thing in the UFC Middleweight division. He has put on admirable performances in the ring but his recent social media feud with Middleweight champion Israel Adesanya is what put him on everybody’s radar. Now, he is one step away from what he asked for as he is slated to face Robert Whittaker on 9 July.

Yeah, um… you know some people would say… listen this nose surgery… are you going to be a new fighter? And I’m like, you know, it’s just a nose surgery. Its… it’s definitely making a difference in how I look when I fight because you know breathing through your mouth definitely looks crazy and it… you definitely start hyperventilating when you’re breathing heavily. And during my rest rounds I can really… that… that’s where the big difference comes in and my recovery, my sleep – everything has been better.” said the South African martial artist, laying to rest most speculations about his nasal surgery.

Addressing the concerns of people who have been wondering if this nasal surgery might be a difference-maker in his upcoming fight against Robert Whittaker, Du Plessis said, “There’s definitely a difference but how big of a difference – you know, am I going to get tired? Most certainly. Because if you look at the output that I put, you… you… anybody in the world will get tired from that. But, maybe I’ll look a little bit better doing it.“.

The Middleweight Semi-finale – Dricus Du Plessis and Robert Whittaker prep for battle

Robert Whittaker can really bring it in the ring if he wants to. He has proved, time and again, that he is not like the other fighters in the Middleweight division. However, Dricus Du Plessis is no less. Granted he hasn’t faced Israel Adesanya yet, but that just might be the ‘mentality’ he needs to get the job done on 9 July.

Whittaker has explicitly said that Du Plessis is a dangerous fighter and that he is preparing for the fight in full swing. Du Plessis on the other hand, seems to be preparing but much more aggressively.
