The world of MMA has seen several unexpected events. But, there are only a few such instances that have garnered appreciation from the noted UFC color commentator Joe Rogan. Most fans may have witnessed Rogan talk about how great the former UFC Flyweight champ, Demetrious Johnson is. However, a recent video suggested that the 56-year-old may be equally appreciative of the current UFC featherweight champ, Alexander Volkanonvski.

Most fans may remember how UFC 266 presented an all-out war between ‘Volk’ and the noted UFC featherweight, Brian Ortega. At a point in the bout, a large chunk of fans thought that ‘Volk’ might lose his UFC featherweight title to Ortega just after one title defense. But the 56-year-old podcaster was startled by the way in which ‘The Great’ transformed his near-defeat situation to ultimately gain a victory.

Most UFC fans may remember that ‘Volk’s’ UFC 266 featherweight championship bout against Brian Ortega was nowhere near an easy one. ‘The Great’ did get the better of the standup exchanges between the two. But Ortega also didn’t lack far behind as he returned numerous blows from the Australian. But most UFC fans, including Rogan, the lifelong martial artist who still trains, may have predicted an end to the bout in the third round.

In an episode of his noted podcast, ‘The Joe Rogan Experience’, the 56-year-old talked about the entire scenario in the third round of the fight. He mentioned how Ortega had caught Volkanovski in a full guillotine mount“. Rogan also detailed, “That kind of guillotine with a guy like that is death”. This was where ‘Volk’ proved that he stands out from the rest.

Now talking about Volkanovski’s resistance, Rogan said, “That crazy motherf**ker from Australia got out of what 99.99% of people that have lived would have tapped out to”. His next words, “That’s fu**in savage. Like, ‘No. Not today bi*ch. I’d rather die’”, are enough to realize his appreciation towards ‘Volk’s’ shocking resistance.

Most UFC fans will probably agree that ‘Volk’ is an insanely tough individual who gets the better of his opponents quite convincingly most of the time. But, they also might need his UFC 266-like spirit once more in his upcoming fight.

Will Alexander Volkanovski be able to showcase his previous resistance in his upcoming fight?

Almost all UFC fans are aware of the fact that ‘Volk’ already has his next fight scheduled. However, a large chunk of his fans may be a bit worried currently since he will be taking on his only unconquered UFC rival, Islam Makhachev. The UFC 294 main event encounter between these two is scheduled to be their rematch. However, fans may remember that ‘Volk’ had lost his previous encounter against Makhachev at UFC 284.
