Arnold Allen could not pull off the spectacular against Max Holloway in their main event bout at UFC Kansas City. However, the Brit earned the respect of Holloway and gained many more fans after a strong outing. Nevertheless, Allen does not want to look at the silver lining in this situation.

In a recent interview given to ‘The MMA Hour’, the #4 ranked featherweight laid bare his disappointment from the loss against Max Holloway. The stakes were high for Allen, and a win against Holloway would have skyrocketed his prospects and his stocks.

The 29-year-old could not get the job done but raised his stock in the eyes of many. The ever-competitive Allen, however, does not look at it that way. He said, “I didn’t feel like a winner after and I don’t know. It’s not as bad as I thought. A lot of people say I should be proud, ‘You did five rounds and pushed the pace with Max [Holloway].’ I’m not proud of myself. I expect a lot more from myself… I got half my pay, I lost my winning streak, I missed out on a title shot. There’s no moral victory.”

Allen’s comments have fetched quite a few reactions from the fans. Many praised him for not settling for anything but winning, while some others pointed out the deep-rooted issues in the UFC.

  • It’s an embarrassment for the entire sport that this is how athletes are treated at the highest level
  • That 50% cut if you lose is straight up robbery
  • He’ll walk away w/ 50k after taxes and fees in the end. Losing in the UFC=broke
  • The show and win bonus pay model needs to go. It’s brutal.
  • I’ll root for Arnold Allen to win against pretty much everyone but Max Holloway
  • He’s right, but also he lost against the 2nd best feather weight in the history of the sport. No shame in that.
  • He lost half his pay for that performance. Jesus Dana…..get rid of show/win and managers… please stop signing them

What do you think about Allen’s comments? Do you think he should give himself more credit? And what is your take on the pay issues he highlighted?
