Mixed martial arts is still in its infancy. The MMA landscape has changed quite a bit over the past three decades. The technical and stylistic aspects of fighting have evolved so rapidly that this does not even seem like the same sport that was practiced in the early 1990s when the UFC held its first event. One of the reasons Jon Jones is considered the GOAT of MMA is precisely because he was able to dominate his division for nearly a decade.

This, of course, is unprecedented in MMA, where one mistake or one momentary lapse in judgment or concentration could mean a knockout. To keep up with a new generation of fighters requires one to keep up with the latest innovations in the sport and evolve with the times. One is Conor McGregor, who, according to his nutritionist Tristin Kennedy’s revelation on EssentiallySports exclusive ES FanCast, has not changed much, but in the aspects that should not change.

Tristin Kennedy spoke to Noah Lack on EssentiallySports exclusive ES FanCast about Conor McGregor and his preparations ahead of ‘Mac’s much-awaited comeback. Lack asked Kennedy about how McGregor had changed over his career, to which the nutritionist had a surprising answer, contrary to the popular impression fans have of McGregor today.

“Not much [has changed]. I think he’s just a very driven individual. Hard-core for training. Follows his diet to a T. You see all this misconception in the media, it’s absolute crap, you know. I just know Conor to be a very hard-working individual, trains very well,” he said.

Kennedy felt that McGregor was the most dedicated and hard-working fighter he had been at the beginning of his career. He stated that ‘Notorious’ trained just as hard as ever and followed his diet plans earnestly and sincerely. He felt the media gave the wrong idea of McGregor’s zeal and diligence for the sport.

Many (including UFC boss Dana White) feel McGregor has changed after all the money and fame that he has achieved in his career and has lost the drive and hunger that the up-and-coming ‘Notorious’ had. Kennedy, of course, disagrees. But he also pointed out that McGregor is his boss. Well, but in good news for McGregor fans, we will find out just how driven he still is as he prepares to make his comeback.

USADA exit clears the way for return of the ‘Mac’

USADA, in its statement about splitting with the UFC, pointed to the Conor McGregor affair as one of the reasons it felt the two organizations were at an impasse. McGregor had not entered the pool until recently. And USADA had prevented the promotion from giving him an exemption to its six-month rule.

This closed the door for a December return for ‘Mac’ as the UFC had originally planned. But, with USADA set to split from the UFC beginning January 2024, the road for McGregor’s return seems clear. All that remains is for the UFC to make an official announcement. Keep an eye out at EssentiallySports exclusives for more such information on your favorite stars.
