How rare is it to see a father-son duo in combat sports? How much rarer is it that they share the same moniker? Well, that is the case for Lance Gibson Jr. who shares the moniker ‘Fearless’ with his father, former UFC star Lance Gibson Sr. It’s a fitting moniker for the Gibson Sr., who fought Jermaine Andre at UFC 24 back in 2000 and won his sole UFC outing via a knee. Six years later, he took on ‘The Wolverine’ in X-Men: The Last Stand as ‘Spike.’
As for his son, Lance Gibson Jr., the 29-year-old-old is already famous in the realm of Bellator. He garnered a massive fan following in the same promotion over his 5-1 run between 2019 and 2023. He has 9 wins and 1 loss with 4 of the wins via KO. In comparison, Gibson Sr. was 4-5 overall in MMA. But Jr. is in a bit of a spot right now.
With the Professional Fighters League (PFL) releasing more and more fighters they acquired after buying Bellator, Gibson Jr. is among those looking for a new stable. ‘Fearless’ is aiming high and wants the UFC, as he made clear via a recent social media post. Lance Gibson Jr. uploaded a video directly addressing UFC head honcho Dana White with a humble request.

The 29-year-old addressed the boss and Sean Shelby directly and confidently said that he was on the boss’s radar for a long time now. “You’ve seen what my dad did 25 years ago at UFC 24, March 10, 2000. I was born 10 minutes away from [Climate Pledge] Arena, and I was raised on the mats in Seattle, Washington. This city knows my name. I fought for the Pacific Northwest my entire career. Fight after fight, I’ve shown I’m fearless. I’m ferocious. I’m unstoppable. But most importantly, I’m one of a kind. I’ve dreamt my entire life of being able to fight in the UFC octagon. What better time than now?”
UFC Fight Night in Seattle on Feb 2025 goes down at the Climate Pledge Arena that Gibson Jr. mentioned. This would be the first time in 12 years that the promotion is returning to ‘Rain City.’ So the stage would be perfect for a hometown debut for the 9-1 lightweight. Gibson Jr. exited Bellator on a loss (his only one so far) to Vladimir Tokov in March 2023. He has since bounced back with two back-to-back wins at Muckleshoot Fight Night events in 2024.

Dana White has lofty plans for Seattle. The February 22 card will feature popular names like Brendan Allen and Curtis Blaydes. He sat down with Sports Business Journal to discuss the UFC’s future for 2025 and declared the secrets. “I’m looking to go everywhere on this planet,” White said. “We’re going to start going into cities that we haven’t been to [since] pre-pandemic. We’re going to start going back. We’re going to do Chicago in ‘25. We’re going to go back up to Seattle and hit a lot of other places that we haven’t been in a while, so we’re going to move around a lot in ’25.”
The fight matchups have not been announced yet so there is still time for Gibson Jr to do his bidding. Fortunately, fans are enthusiastically helping him out on this.
