Neil Magny is set to fight Michael Chiesa at the main event of the January 20 card on Fight Island, Abu Dhabi. The co-main event was promoted to the headliner spot after the Fight Night event lost its actual main-event between Leon Edwards and Khamzat Chimaev.

Ahead of the fight, Magny opened up on his view of the possible matchup against the ‘Maverick.’ In a recent interview ‘The Haitian Sensation’ said, “Yeah. 100 percent. The guy’s currently undefeated art welterweight. He’s fought two of the same guys that I’ve fought recent years. And he’s finished one of them and beat the other guy that beat me.
“So, I’m definitely impressed with his skillset. What he’s done at welterweight so far. As far as the challenge goes, I feel he’s one pf the guys in the division that’d give me a pretty big challenge.
“That’s the kind of fight that excites me. That’s the kind of fight that gets you wake up a little bit more motivated in the morning.You just kind of know you have to bring you’re a game in a fight like that. So, I’m definitely pumped up to fight a guy like Michael Chiesa,” added Magny.
“From the style perspective, I feel like it’s a great match up for me. I get to test myself against a seasoned grappler. I’ve struggled in the past against the guys who are really good at grappling. So, for me I feel like stylistically it’s gonna force me to go out there and bring the best in me. And that’s what I am excited for.”

Magny is currently on a 3-fight win streak. He last defeated Robbie Lawler in a lopsided decision. He is certainly at the top of the crop in the welterweight division and will be looking to improve his no.9 ranking with a win over Chiesa.

‘Maverick’ Chiesa is also on a 3 fight win streak of his own. He last defeated Rafael dos Anjos in a decision. So, both fighters are matched up perfectly in terms of rankings and stylistically as well.
