Sean Strickland gave concerned fans a major health update about his eye, which was still gushing red after Abus Magomedov‘s accidental eye poke at UFC Vegas 76. The eye poke came early in the first round when Magomedov assumed the aggressor’s role.

Despite the unfortunate accident, the 32-year-old maintained his win streak. The referee, Mark Smith, intervened and stopped the fight at 4:20 in the second round. With his remarkable performance, Strickland has set his name up for title discussions. However, he is sure to feel the effects of that eye poke for days to come.

The New Bern native posted a series of Instagram stories where he gave his fans a closer view of his eye. The accidental poke left his eye red, teary, and stingy and therefore his initial updates raised a concern.

In the first of those stories, he wrote, “I think I got pregnant it went so deep”. Following this, the 27-5 record holder mentioned he lost the war. He penned, “I won the battle but lost the war…. my god this sucks lol!”.

After a lapse of some hours, the fans, hopeful of a positive update, were hit with some more troublesome news. The #7 ranked middleweight revealed to his fans, “Eye update.. stings and it won’t stop leaking.. odd lol!”.

But all is not bleak, as Strickland in his latest update finally announced a bit of good news. He declared, “Well good news! Vision is almost fine”.

The fighter’s exhibition of willpower and steel nerves after the eye poke elevated his image as a fighter. In a conversation with ESPN, he disclosed what went through his head when he was on the verge of losing from a doctor stoppage.

Strickland draws inspiration from former UFC champion

Admitting he was on the ropes, the MMA fighter said, “It was bad, but it’s a fight. [Michael] Bisping won the title with one eye. I am not gonna lie, I thought about Bisping”.

“I said Bisping in my head and I said Bisping won the title with one eye. You can do it with an eye poke,” he added later.

Strickland, in the same interview, put the champion Israel Adesanya on alert as he announced his intent to take him into “deep water”.
